I'm preparing for several, "I open my eyes" comments here, but I was just wondering if you're not going to get much sleep the previous night and must wake up early, what do you do to help yourself feel less tired in the morning? I like to jump in the pool, but sometimes it's tough just getting to the pool.

I never get much sleep lately. My body is used to it by now, giving me enough energy to at least make it to work. Once I'm at work, staying awake is easy...since I work at a Starbucks and the espresso flows freely.

Usually I'm like **** I want more sleep! Because I usually enjoy sleeping, and when I wake up its harder to go back to sleeping.

I have no problem getting up early when I have to. Now when there's no reason to get up early, then it's absolutely impossible for me to wake up before 10:30.

I'm addicted to caffine, so I drink at least one cup of coffee every morning.

Also, I find that just stretching, and jumping around a little bit does wonders for getting the body started.

I just let the alarm keep going off until I'm awake enough to get up, turn it off, and stay up/awake.

Normal alarm goes off at 6am, and cellphone alarm goes off at full blast at 6:01 ;)

Its annoying as hell becasue once I shut my normal alarm clock off I'm still sort of out of it and I'm like "WTF IS THAT SOUND SHUT UP!" and I'm smacking all on my drawer to find what it is.

If I have to get up I get up. If I don't have to get up it takes some combination of a heavy duty forklift and a 180 decibel alarm to move me. I'm trying to beat my personal best of 18 hours straight sleeping. Its tough. If someone threw a big spider on my face I'd probably get up real quick.

I use my cellphone as an alarm clock. Then I eat an apple (said to be more effective at waking one up than drinking coffee).

First I wake up. Then I roll a couple times and then just stop. I stare at one spot not doing anything and then I force myself to get up with a quick burst movement. Then I walk to the bathroom and wash my face with water. If I'm struggling to hard to get out of bed I just roll off and hit the ground. That wakes me up for sure.

For me, when I know I'm not gonna get enough sleep, it helps me to set my alarm clock a good hour early.

This may seem stupid. You may think, "if you're that tired, why would you set your alarm clock EARLY"?

Here's the thing. Sometimes, you're just gonna wake up DEAD tired. You know it's gonna happen before you even go to the sleep for the night.

Here's the thing...when you're THAT tired, your first attempt to wake up has a high chance of failing. By setting your alarm early, and then hitting thew snooze button at each 10 minute interval, you get SIX attempts to wake up on time to get to work.

So that's what I do. I just set my alarm clock for REALLY early. Each time I hit the snooze button and then go to sleep, I don't fall asleep quite as previously as I had before.

After an hour of that ****, I'm awake enough to actually realize that I need to pull my ass out of bed.

I generally wake up late after pressing the mute button on my alarm clock (or unplugging it), so I wake up to my mom screaming "Get out here, school starts in 15 minutes!".

I wake up. It's around noon or 1. I just lay there for a while. The bed just feels so comfortable.I usually fall asleep while watching Nick at Nite. So, I stare at the TV watching Dora the Explorer as if I'm in a trace. Then I slowly roll out of bed. And once I'm out, I'm pretty much up. But, then as I start to walk out the door with just my underwear on when it hits me that my sister has a friend over already or one will be here soon. Crap. So, then I sit on the bed as if I have no idea what to do. I continue to watch Dora the Explorer. Before finally, putting on some shorts and a t-shirt and heading downstairs.

Heh, I wish I could do that. I turn it off in my sleep. I try putting it across my room but I've reached the point of sleep walking and turning it off and going back to bed.

No, you don't understand. I do the same thing. That's why I give myself a good hour to wake up.

I mean, if I cal;culate the latest time I can wake up and still get to work on time, I'm gonna be late for work.

This is because being tired is a lot like being cold or being hot. As in, it's summer now, and it's hot. Do I know the temperature? No. It might be 95%. It might be 110%. I don't know. And I don't care. Once it reaches 95%, it's ****ing hot. If it gets a few degrees hotter, I'm not gonna notice te rise in temperature, I'm just going to continue to feel ****ing hot.

Likewise, if you're waking up dead sleepy, waking up 95% dead sleepy is equivalent to waking up 100% dead sleepy. When ypu finally do wake up, you're nopt sure exactly HOW dead sleepy you are. All you can tell is that you're dead sleepy.

So if I KNOW that I'm gonna wake up sleepy as hell, I set my alarm clock early.

Sure, I'll wake up sleepy as hell. But I also would've waken up sleepy as hell had I NOT set my alarm clock early.
