If they're hardcore conservatives, just tell them your gay That should lesson the blow.

Or you could fake your death.

But if you're like me, you could just get into a community college for 2 years, do well, then get into an actual university on a transfer scholarship. Not hard to do and you still get to go to a big boy college on a dime.

It's not the end of the world. They'll be upset and maybe even disappointed for a bit, but they'll get over it. Go to community college, DO WELL, and transfer to university then. You'll actually save a lot of money this way too.

If you have that view, you'll never get into a good college.

Community college is like the easiest thing. Just do well enough to maintain a decent GPA (3.0 or so) and bam, no problem.

You could also join the military and get full benefits, its a route I could have taken.

Im hesitant, my brother went this route and he didn't end up getting in and he keeps sinking.. Wondering if I should just upgrade and get in normally but either way im losing... man $260 for final exam prep courses down the drain, $115 application fee gone, halfway through summer school to raise a mark and then this dreaded mail.. specialzed

This is why I emphasized the "DO WELL" part lol. Study hard at community college, get good grades, and you'll be able to transfer to a good university for sure. The general education classes you'll take at community college generally aren't very difficult. Just stay focused, motivated, and apply yourself.

Just tell them. Beating around the bush and delaying the inevitable is inevitably going to make everything about the situation worse. Regardless of how you break the news the message will be the same, so you might as well be a man and be upfront with them. Then go to community college and don't be lazy. Start a transfer degree, do you work, get good grades, and transfer (with all of your credits) to a University after two years.

There's nothing to be upset about. It could be a blessing in disguise. My parents didn't want me to be in debt, so they payed for my school. Their condition? Community College first. You'll save boatloads and can transfer your credits to a four year school. Out of my group of friends that wen't straight to the four year school I attend, ONE is graduating at the same time as me. The rest have either failed out or are taking "breaks." Go to CC, make it a priority, and you'll do well.

I went to a community college for 2 years and I'm finally transferring to a university. Can't say that this was my plan all along, but I did my best at the community college, and now I'm satisfied with the way things are going.

Don't worry about what your parents think though. Like others have said, it's not like you're going to be costing yourself/them any more money by going to a community college. It's certainly not a waste of time either.

Which university did you apply to? If you applied toward an ivy league university, you should expect that won't make it. Apply for something more your level.

not telling them now is just going to p**s them off later. the more u hold onto the bad news, the worse effect it will have on ur parents. best to tell them now, so they can get over this problem faster...

Tell them you can go to a community college and be a part of their transfer program whereby after 2 years you go straight to your local university.

Interpretive dance. That way you've told them, gotten it out into the open and your conscience will be clear. If they don't understand it, accuse them of being boorish naendrathols and tell them that their poor genetics are the reason you're not getting into University. Win-win.

Looks like University of Illinois!

But seriously, it's probably best to just tell them. Tell them how you're feeling about it. It's a good idea to present them with a plan you've created about how this has affected your future, and what you're going to do about it.

Did your parents say they would be disappointed if you didn't get into a university? If not, then don't worry about it. You're not perfect. My advice would be to go to a community college first, and then transfer to a university. If I'm correct, you don't have to worry about SAT or ACT scores if you go that route, and community college is alot cheaper than university, at least here in Southern California.

Thank-you for asking this! I just found out today that I also got rejected from the university at which my father works at... and it seems that the college that I had applied to as backup is also full. Still waiting to break the bad news....... I'm really depressed too... trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my life.
