I am not sure how I feel about religion. How about you? Discuss.

One thing I feel is that people should not do good things because they are God Fearing, or because they are promised reward for their deeds but because its the right thing to do in general.

In Christianity at least, you're not rewarded for your deeds. Good works don't get you into heaven.

in Christianity you can get rewarded for your deeds but you need to have accepted Christ as your savior first, its the main requisite, without it its not worth at allI see no value in it myself. We're blobs of carbon on an infinitessimaly tiny rock (on a cosmological scale) in a universe with no capacity to care about us, and I'm fine with that.
I'm happy enough to liveand let live. Religion has too much influence in politics for my liking, and the nutcases are at best a nuisance and at worst homicidal, but I'm not going todevote anytime tobringing about its demise.
I don't care about it and I'm fine with whatever anyone follows as long as they aren't using it to hurt someone.
Or if someone gets all uppity about religion with me when they find out I'm an atheist.

We wouldn't approve of this sort of behaviour in any other context.
I think religion is a means of explaing that which is unknown. As cience begins findign out more about reality they walls of religion are slowly beign torn down.

That right there is the biggest reason I could never, ever worship the Christan god...a god that would condemn a good person to eternal torture, solely for choosing a different religion, despite the fact that there is just as little evidence for all others as there is for christianity...that god is deserving of worship...IMO.I think religion is a means of explaing that which is unknown. Your spelling and grammar aside, I second this...

A god who loves all of his creations, would love even those who do not actively believe but do great deeds regardless.[QUOTE="TaCoDuDe"][QUOTE="MuddVader"]

I think you need to read the Bible again.
They are tools for comfort that deserve no respect. I see them as the psychosomatic equivalent of sleeping next to a teddy bear every night.

Funny thing is, that this God, could be the same God in all religions, just worshiped differently, so those saying that following another religion is wrong, could be wrong themselves and only impeding the worship of God.it's cool with me as long as it isn't taken overboard, makes people feel more stable. I hate fanatics though, I love watching people squirm when they're trying to convert somebody, and I ask why their god doesn't heal amputees. XilePrincessJim Jones healed amputees! :o Oh wait.
