Just a general question about how you came about the music that you listen too. I don't think the radio has introduced anybody to the world since before I was born, or at least the 90s, right? So, do you subscribe to YouTube channels, use apps like Pandora, or what? What is your go to source for music.

Personally I can't break my habbit of watching a decent amount of music videos first thing in the morning so I find out about a lot of music I don't even care for from MtvU, Hits, and Jams. Outside of that I frequent a couple websites like ThisIs50 and LiveMixtapes and that's where I find more of what I like to hear, but my YouTube favorites are all over the map.

Well, for me its two ways.

The first is the obvious. I stumble upong stuff I like from trailers and stuff over time. The second is basically jumping on iTunes and going through the top 100-200 of the top few genres I like 3 or 4 times a year.

There isn't really great way to find music, imo, since it varies so much from person to person.

Last.FM is a fantastic place to find bands, HIGHLY recommended. Also, I use Pitchfork from time to time.

I try to use Pandora. It plays 10 songs you know, 5 songs you dont like, then finally one new good one. So its kinda worth it.

Otherwise I take music I like and then look at the albums they came from sometimes find others

I enjoy digging for my own music. So I'll use the metal-archives.net lists and try to find songs on Youtube from different bands that I might like. And other times I'll use Wikipedia and search for relevant bands. And another interesting source would be concerts and music festivals. I just recently came back from one a couple of days ago, so I've got at least a good half dozen new bands to look up.

I listen to the specialist music shows on BBC Radio 1, and its sister station 1Xtra.

Sometimes I'll tune into Australian and U.S stations online to find new stuff. I also visit RCRD LBL and Bandcamp. Facebook has been good for new music suggestions as well.

Other times, I just use google if I want to find, say, French pop or Japanese metal etc.

YouTube related videos, Wikipedia for artists that fall within certain criteria, Last.fm is very good for listening to just anyone since it plays artists similar to or within specified criteria (type in a genre, or type in multiple genres and artists!), and suggestions from internet forums where ever I may find them.

A friend might recommend a song, if I like it I check out the rest from that band. Or sometimes I just get lucky and hear a good song on TV show or a movie, or even scrolling down the side list on youtube.

I don't really think to myself "I want to find new music, I'm going to go look." For me it just happens. I spend a lot of time on music message boards, at shows, and reviewing albums. I pick some up through those mediums, friends, and last.fm. Though I have to say the majority of music I listen to is stuff I've never heard of that I end up downloading. I never know if it's something I'll like or not, but that's the whole point for me.

Plenty of ways, most importantly, using Spotify. It's a godsend for being able to quickly to listen to most artists quickly, and not just the one song somebody put on Youtube you have access to full albums.

Also I'm subscribed to The Needle Drop on youtube and I mostly just use that to find out about new music and occasionally watch his reviews if something interests me.

I go on a forum for one of the bands I really like and check out other bands people talk about or suggest on there.

Sometimes you'll hear about a certain artist on here, or on Facebook, or they just have that one big hit, so I usually give them a listen.

Another easy way is to just look at bands who are on the same record label as bands you already like, more often than not you'll find at least one other band there that interests you.

Finally festival lineups, most festivals usually have at least 50% bands you haven't heard of, especially on smaller stages, go through and give them a listen.

Sometimes he sounds like he just is trying hard not to like an album because of it's image/mainstream success. His Kanye reviews are usually terrible and completely off-point. He just seems to regurgitate the opinions from music boards.

Yeah and what's funny is that he almost exclusively likes albums that are mainstream for the "underground" genre or subgenre that they're apart of. I usually feel like he's too gracious with most releases.

Yeah.

I would imagine if he were to somehow aquire a copy of an album prior to it's release anywhere and had to write a review for it, he'd have a lot of trouble. His criticsms seems to just be a mish mash of other people's opinions.

I browse the New Best Music on pitchfork.com.

Nah... either people I know recommend music to me, I find new musicians through their collaborations with musicians I already know or I find stuff through youtube's recommendations.
