Personally I find it to suck monkey balls, not half as good as Death Magnetic, but better than the last three or four before DM.
So OT:What's your honest answer?
Metallica's just doesn't have it anymore in my opinion.

I really like several of the songs on the first disc but overall, its a long way from being their best. I think I probably enjoyed Death Magnetic more as well.
not sure i'd say it sucks donkey balls though. They still have something
I remember thinking Metallica was fucken old when they made that St Anger song years ago.
You're meant to tell me they still make music?!
Let me guess you are more a Taylor swift fan or Red headed Eddy.
Big Taylor Swift fan <3. I don't know who the latter is.

Ahh knew it ...
I'm sure Swift and Grande and ed will make you very happy.

I haven't heard it, but I thought Death Magnetic was kinda crap, so I probably won't like it.
Meh it's alright I guess. I like the cover of Deep Purple- When a Blind Man Cries even if it's not a typical sounding Metallica song. So there's that.
@brimmul777: I loved it, spit out the bone is one of their best songs since the 80s.
I loved atlas rise, moth into the flame and the title track as well.
It was heavy, had bad ass riffs and Hetfields voice sounded great.
An improvement on death magnetic, which was a mild return to form (although with time I like at anger better than I did at release.)
If you release Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, and The Black Album is succession -- you can do whatever you want for as long as you want.
Metallica also wrote One, so they have free reign to do whatever they want creatively. That's why people overlook the abomination that was LuLu.
Much like Death Magnetic, it just kind of sits there. At least, unlike Death Magnetic, the mastering process was not brickwalled to hell and back, though.
I absolutely LOVE Death Magnetic. It's one of my favourite Metallica albums of all time. It's tight, got great production and energy for days. That said, I'm an even bigger fan of their older work, from Kill 'Em All all the way up to Reload. I legitimately dislike St. Anger (there hasn't been a single time I've made it all the way through the album). I am a big Metallica fan, and appreciate all of their changes in style aside from St. Anger.
Hardwired? It's... listenable? It's got no energy like all their previous works (including cover albums and whatnot). It's got a lot of really boring songs. You can HEAR their age in their performance. It doesn't excite me like their other work. It doesn't get me pumped up. It really doesn't feel like a Metallica record, just like St. Anger.
I was one of those who couldn't dig the production of Death Magnetic. The songs are good, but without a good pair of headphones, I find it un-listenable. I actually have a playlist of live versions of the tracks that I've listened to a lot more than the actual album.
Hardwired does nothing for me. One of their worst.
I wouldn't say this is Metallica's worst Album, just disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I like there new Album but this isn't the best one they release either. At this point, I don't think anything will ever top Orion from Master though.
Lars is really showing his age.
Metallica is still releasing albums? God, they were old back when I was in high school.

I never got all the hate people had for Saint Anger. I agree it wasn't up to their usual standards, but if any other band had made that album people would be raving about it. I would say that people were pissed that it was more garage rock than metal, but Metallica had been doing garage rock since Black.
@brimmul777
Hardwired, Atlas Rise, Spit out the bone, and Moth are 4 solid songs off that album (everything else is decent).
Album sounds incredible live. Just like Death Magnetic, the songs really shine on live equipment
Lars is really showing his age.
Really surprised to here this. He's finally off the drugs and is actually playing at at a high level again (going back to the double bass pedal and isn't doing his annoying drum fills).
Him playing at a high level is actually why you can finally hear the bass when they play live and they don't have to slow down on older songs (St Anger and Death Magnetic tour they had to turn Rob's bass down because it was draining out the drum fills).
Him playing how he's been playing this tour is part of the reason why all the concerts are getting rave reviews/reception (overall, this is the best they've sounded in 20 years).

I feel the same way; St Anger is where Metallica and I had a "falling out" of sorts :P I won't say I stopped listening to them or enjoying them, they will remain one of my favorite groups of all time for the rest of my days. My blood still gets pumping when I hear their older songs.
Honestly, Lars just banging on those Tom-Toms is what annoyed me the most with St Anger, slappity slappity bong bong slappity bong bong slap. I don't know why but it just sounded like they got some random bucket drummer and was like "Go be annoying" and that's what happened, bunch of annoying drum noise. I mean, it's their transition album of sorts. They went from metal, to metal rock, to whatever the hell St. Anger was, back to rock-metal with Death Magnetic (big improvement), then I lost track I guess this new album.
Still like the old stuff the best, even Load and Reload and the Black Album (I know purists hate those, but screw it I like 'em).
I mean, "One" isn't my favorite song of theirs but it is honestly one of the best songs of all time. Ever. Sorry I know it isn't really but it is lol. That super sad, beautiful guitar in the beginning sets up the song so well. There's like a little bit of hope in there, too, but then it gets sad again, then the lyrics come. And for so long, I really didn't listen to them. Then I got internet (huzzah!) and did research, read the lyrics, and was like "holy shit!" and found out that there was this book Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo about a quadruple amputee in WWI that couldn't speak or anything, and the song is based off that. The song's value to me, not sentimentally but as art, increased so much. It's ugly, gritty, sad, fast, slow, beautiful...**** man I'm getting a little eye water just thinking about it.
And it's not even my favorite! Hell, Orion doesn't even have lyrics and that song makes me trip a little bit without even taking drugs. Must be ASMR or something :P It's like I'm flying through space or some shit when I close my eyes, like in the beginning it's all heavy "Oh man asteroid field watch out!" then the calm middle comes and we be like "Ooooh neeeebbuuuuulaaaaaa"
TL;DR no didn't hear their new album yet, I will have to give it a listen!

What are you talking about he is only 53.

around 2004 ish the band cleaned up, stopped living the rock and roll life style and started to look after there bodies, the result is they still in good nick and play like a younger band. Hetfield is only 54 now, they may have a few more years yet before they retire.
Its a parody of Metallica.
Its them failing at their evolution (imo mostly because of how they handled the fan base) but not being in their 20s anymore, so unable to honestly....soulfully...... repeat Lightening or Puppets but they try anyway.
They're a cover band who has been asked to do new material of the band they cover. It really shows in this album as well, ill see if i can find the review i wrote on this and paste it, but if you listen to certain songs on this album and then listen to certain songs on Lightening to the black album, you'll find exact riffs they took, exact tempos, exact everything. You can really tell that they had to go back and listen to their old stuff, then as they were listening decided to play along and make some tweaks. Listen to Murder One and than One to see a very obvious example of this.
I was done with Metallica after the black album.... actually during, you could tell at that point they were not headed in a good direction. After the black album the only thing i appreciated was their San Francisco Symphony live show, which showed me they at least had an appreciation for other music and might have been trying to evolve, but that didnt really happen. Im not a big metal guy anymore, my tastes have evolved and changed over the years, im no longer an aggressive teenager and uhh... yah, it doesnt appeal to me as much anymore. That said, to this day i'd still put Puppets (and Far Beyond Driven and Dirt and Aenima) in my top 10.

Yup, Indeed he is and Metallica is.
The only Metallica songs I really like are Nothing Else Matters and their cover of Turn the Page. Not really a fan of metal music.
@brimmul777: I stopped liking them when the Black album came out. My friend got the tape cassette back in the 80s and we sat around listening to it and immediately were disgustipated. Compared to Justice for All it was absolutely crap. Justice for All every single song on that album is good. Rarely do bands do that. Usually they have one or two good ones and the rest are garbage.
If I was the producer I would've split the album up & saved some of the songs for the next album.
