I have never heard anyone pronounce it with a "bee" sound. It's "by".

Well merriam-webster alone has 2 pronunciations, and it seems Aussies and Europeans pronounce it differently too.i thought that was the only way to pronounce it.

I think he means the British phonemic script, which transcribes as /ai/ the diphthong sound in 'buy'.Where do you get an 'ay' sound out of an 'i'?
