Like they're constructed in a weird way so you don't know how to respond....For example someone goes "You didn't go to school yesterday, right?". Well how are you supposed to answer that? Saying yes if you didn't go? Or if you said yes, would that mean you did go? Just the way there's that weird negative thrown in there makes it strange to answer.

Anyone run into questions like these? Weird.

well since there is a right at the end, you will be agreeing or disagreeing with the right, not with the other part of the sentence

yes would be yes, you are right, and vice versa

That's two questions. YES you didn't go to school and YES he is correct. Yes = Correct and No = incorrect. He's already sure of the answer but he wants you to confirm.

Or maybe my example sentence just sucked. What if someone said (like the other guy above), "Are you not driving?", or "Are you not well?". When you answer yes to something like that, it's usually implied that the whole topic of the question is affirmative. So if you answer to "Are you not well?" and answer yes, it would be kind of implying "Yes, I'm actually well". It's hard to explain if anyone understands what I'm saying.

I respond with the correct answer....:|LJS9502_basic

LJ, I was in traffic today and I heard The Cure on the radio and I thought of you. Is that creepy?

__

Anyway, to the TC, I respond by stating my position instead of answering the question.

Example:

Some guy: "Did you not go to school yesterday?"

Me: I was at school yesterday, why"

I would just say "I went to school yesterday".

Yes and No are not the only possible answers to a question you know...

Depends on my disposition towards the person asking the question.

what i hate more is everyone who asks that question has different oppinions about how you shold answer, so you can never get used to the phrase to know how to answer.

wait a minute if someone asked you a question like "so you didn't go to school yesterday, right?" couldn't you just say "right" or "thats correct"

You wouldn't not be liking for me to be failing to give an affirmative answer, right?

Anyway guys, yeah obviously you can respond in a way to clarify without saying yes or no. My question from the start was how you would respond to these kinds of questions solely using yes or no.

Yes, they are correct that you did not. The problem only comes up when people throw words in their sentances for no reason. like asking "right" or adding negative words due to...slang? idk.

Oh yeah I know just what you're talking about. Similarly it's like when you're walking straight toward someone and you step in the same direction accidentally, then you go back and forth, like "which way do you wanna go?", kind of a funny thing that happens a lot.

Yeah, what's up with people going "I ain't got no money"? Well if you don't have "no" money then that means you have money, so why don't they just go "I ain't got any money" or something?
