I mean, it must be cool right? To have that person you want to spend your life with and protect and you're willing to sacrifice yourself for their wellbeing.

It must feel really empowering and awesome right?

Not letting anyone give them any crap and having them care for you when you're feeling like crap! sharing love between each other...

It must be really a great thing eh? Is marriage what I think it is or am I going over my head here?

I think the thought of having someone to care for , be resposible for and love more than yourself is something really great.

It's great. To know that you have somebody that is always there for you and vice versa.

It varies based on the couple. On one end you have the happy couple that eventually celebrates their 50th anniversary with their grandchildren and on the other hand you have another Ike and Tina. It's good for me, though.

sorry to break it to you but, the feelings you just described go away after a couple of weeks past the day you get married.

Why?

She will always be there... and love doesnt fade that quickly i suppose.

Even if i hate her and we fought for example, I will still have this sense of being a male of taking care of her and not allowing anyone give her any crap!

That's terribly cynical! Although I'll admit it must happen a lot with couples who get wed early in their relationship when they don't really know each other that well. But take me for example: my woman and I plan to wed this December but we've been a couple and been living together for 13 years without any break. And to top that, we have a 7 year-old daughter.

Getting married won't change a single thing in our relationship. We know where we're going. After that much time (and especially after having been through financial hell), we know we are rock solid.

Being married is a lot of things: sure, it's a lot of love but it's also friendship, trust, humour and communication.

It's good.  That is except for the fact I can't bang other women.  In which case it sucks.

In other words it has it's pros and cons like most things in life.

More than 50% of marriages end in divorce. Probably not that great.

Having different sexual partners doesn't guarantee a vastly different sexual experience.

I am not married and never will be but I am in a very steady alomost married relationship for about five years now.

I think it has changed my outlook on life but that is simple because my boyfriend is an amazing guy.

I dont think it means all married couples are happy.

Marriage is much more beneficial to women than men.  So go into your legal contract guaranteeing them 50% of your stuff with that knowledge.

Here's the thing I've noticed about relationships; they are super fuc#in' complicated. I'd like to change your optimism from "marriage" to "love", since they don't always coincide and aren't mutual exclusive. But I can't. See, even if two people are madly in love and should totally be together, if any should, and it still just won't work out for any myriad reasons. Relationships are hard and confusing and so many emotions are happening on so many levels and then you get super invested in someone and the fear of losing them and being all alone kicks in.....it's rough, I'm not gonna lie. And lots of people just quit...like that....any sign of trouble or hardship and they are done. Let's put it this way; relationships are so complicated and strange and unique to themselves, that it's impossible to give advice or to just make generalized statements about how it feels to be in one.

But yes, if you find someone that is perfect for you and STABLE and there for you and doesn't quit at the drop of a hat....THAT would feel amazing. Know that you have someone that you can truly trust and count on.....yeah.

It feels great to be married, iv been married for nearly 8 years and i still love my husband and we are like best friends so not every marriage is doomed like some of the people in here have said.

Sometimes it's great. Sometimes it's a pain in the ass. Often times it's kinda boring actually. If you go into marriage thinking that it's going to be all sunshine and rainbows for the rest of your days then you're going to be sorely dissappointed.

That isn't true. Only if the couple doesn't truly love one another is that true.
