My grandma has three firewall programs +windows firewall running in the backround to protect her. I told she only needed one but she wouldnt listen. Within a few months the computer got a virus from expired anti virus software.
My grandparents don't really have any problems with computers. In fact, my grandmother is a mathematician and she used to do a lot of programming on computers, so she knows them quite well.
My step mother is a complete idiot. I mean not even a Mac could save her. She is absolutely terrible, she always manages to screw up the computer that my sister uses, without incident, every time.
My other parents and step parents are good with computers. My grandparents don't own computers.
My mom knows how to use Facebook, but otherwise my parents and all of my grandparents don't understand computers at all. They're always wondering why kids these days spend so many time on computers.
Lets just say my mom has asked me how to copy and paste nearly 20 times now, i explain it clearly every time and she still cant do it... and she's actually improved astronomically from like 5 years ago..
My grandparents don't know how to set up a computer, but can use it well, same as my mother. My father, however, can build a computer from the ground up, teaches people how to use certain programs, and writes programs for Linux.
My mom's parents don't own one, and actually live with us, but aren't in exactly good shape at the moment to worry about computers.
Now my parents. My dad knows all about computers, he's about 50. And my mom, she knows the basics, but probably nothing about anti-virus protection, or anything else than opening the internet and sending e-mails.
My dad is an engineer and my mom is an accountant. How I managed to hide my pr0n stash when I was younger without being detected is beyond me...(joking)
I used to try to teach my grandmother how to use the computer... wow is all I can say. I told her to move the mouse to the start button. I then had to show her what the mouse was and where the start button was. She then literally picked up the mouse and moved it to the start button. Needless to say, she might be able to turn a computer on.
My mother is able to use a word processor and the internet (dailup btw). My dad knows what a keyboard is... I think.
well my dad is doing his best to learn but still needs help here and there, my mom doesn't know anything about them, and my grandma does know how to use Word, which she uses for her work..
The Grandma is generally pretty tame. She uses the internet to type out long-winded messages, one key at a time. Basically, it takes her hours to type a message.
One time, she called me over because she couldn't email. I came over to figure out the problem... turns out, she accidentally dragged the browser towards the edge of the screen, hiding the send button from view.
mom still cant figure out her sony camera we got her 3 years ago.
dad.......... thinks he knows everything.........
but asks for help like every day, when i try to help he tells me im wroung, and im always right since i know computers well. or he blames viruses on me. he still to this day thinks our worst virus came from starcraft brood war. he thinks putting music on the computer slows it down, cause in his theory, everythime you load something it scans everything on the computer. once he got a virus on his laptop from pron his brother sent him onhis email. when he asked for help , i saw the email clearly said (NOT VIRUS SCANNED DO NOT OPEN) and when he did open it, he never deleted it after. why? he might want to look at it later!
