How fast do you read (without just half looking at the text)?

Lets say for an example that you have a unviersity level textbook. How many pages could you read in 30 minutes (and understand it if it is "average" level material)

What about a blog?

What about a novel you read for your enjoyment?

Depends how interested I am in what I am reading and whether I feel like reading or not.

I've always read quite fast and at an advanced level throughout my schooling.

I get it from my mother.

Yes, if I'm reading a cosmology book, I'm ensconced. If it was a book on economics, I may die from boredom.

I can read all the words to something pretty fast, but in doing so they all will pretty much float right through my head, so if I want to understand something I need to read it at a moderately slow pace.

I can read fast enough, the number of pages varies from book to book based on the how much text each page has.

I can read very fast, but if I am reading a boring textbook that I need to learn, then I have to read somewhat slow, or else the words just go in my head and out again and I don't remember them after a minute.

Saying "very fast" is pretty much a waste of time as far as the thread is concerned. Something quantitative, like an estimation of words per minute would be actually useful.

On average (of course it depends on how large the pages are, etc.)... University textbook of 'average' level: ~30 pages per 30 minutes Novel or book for pleasure: ~60-90 pages per 30 minutes I can read rather quickly and I absorb it well. Reading is one of my strong suits. I learned how to read when I was three, and I have been reading with varying degrees of regularity ever since then. I love to read.

I have a habit when reading small font sizes (as the case in every novel or textbook) that prevents me from reading at any sort of a fast pace.

We can't count and read at the same time, duh
Average novel will take me an hour to read about 60-70 pages.
I can pull off about 10 to 20 words a second if it's literature. For academic texts, I slow down to between 3 and 5.

Yeah I am the same way. It kinda sucks because sometimes I will read something fast trying to get thing along. I realize later that I don't remember what I just read and have to reread it at a moderate pace.

Normally I read as fast as I would talk if I'm trying to enjoy the book. I give each character a unique voice and pause when pauses would be used. If I'm reading something like a webpage or textbook and I'm just trying to get the info from the text and into my brain it's pretty much a couple seconds per textbook page or a glace at a post. I remember when I was in third grade we did this reading thing and I got a "university level" (whatever the hell that means) reading and comprehension score and I've only gotten faster since then. Like to read this entire page of topic I just mouse wheeled down the entire time and read it all. Short posts though.

People say I read too fast. I guess sometimes I do. If I want to read and understand the material however, I'll have to read moderately slow.

Depends on the subject of the textbook. Lets say a standard paperback novel, I could probably read about 30 pages in 30 min. I read slowly.

I have no idea. If it's interesting I'll read faster, but if I want to fully understand something I read slower. Enough to get the job done, I suppose. Although I do find myself just scanning text quite a bit.

I'm a slow reader. This has been proven by my friends who have informed me because friends always say hey read this, random article on web, and I do but they always scroll to fast especially when we read at the same time. I'm a slow reader meh

Depends upon the subject matter. For example, I can read a Harry Potter book a heck of a lot faster than a Greek grammar textbook.

While i haven't calculated it out, i find that reading about things that interest me drastically improves reading speed. This could be do to the fact that many of the words used there are familiar to me. I think the only thing that slows reading is words that you don't see on a regular basis and have to quickly sound out in your mind.
