How Important is Smiling?

Can it make a world of difference in everything from relationships to general happiness?

I suppose it's as important as any other gesture of body language.

Smiling has a much bigger impact than people give it credit for. It's disarming when genuine (and trust me, people know when it isn't). People can tell when you're smiling while talking to them over the phone, guaranteed. Studies have even indicated that smiling can create happiness, not just be a product of it.

In short, it doesn't hurt, and it can certainly help in more ways than one. Smiling is awesome.

Sure it's important, but only when the context makes sense. Smiling at a funeral isn't going to win you any browny points.

I got yelled at multiple times at Disney World last August by workers because I wasn't smiling. Okay they weren't yelling, but the employees certainly were alarmed that I wasn't smiling.

Smiling is highly important to some, and next to useless to others. I actually like smiling but sometimes I can't even do it I feel so bad. Overall, I think it's a good thing but when people smile all the time it annoys me and I think they fake their way through life sometimes.

LOL That's just my opinion however...

I think it's pretty important. I have a tendancy to smile all the time, so when I smile it makes other smile therefore it's important because if I'm not smiling then I'm not happy and others around me aren't happy? :|

If I'm talking to someone, I usually have a smile on my face, it just automatically appears. If someone doesn't smile at me - I assume they aren't interested in talking to me and I feel discouraged from engaging them in conversation again. ._. Smiling means a lot for me!

It's an important quality that I look for in myself and others :D
