It can give false impressions during key sexual development. The same reason why violent movies are... without an explanation of context by a parent or adult, they can misunderstand what is going on and be lead astray from reality.

I think porn is more harmful for us males. It can lead to false expectations. The first time I had sex I wasn't expecting the girl to have pubic hair for example. I'm not saying porn is bad, just that maybe youngsters are led to believe in false ideas.

/thread.

There is nothing more to it. Also, in some types of pornography sex and violence are synonymous, again encouraging inappropriate sexual behaviour is later life.

it would probably twist a childs views on the subject of sexual morality and ethinicity, and prohibit them from ever knowing/understanding love or monogamy? Having stuff like that ingrained into you as a child would definitly have detremental effects concerning the way you percieved sex.

I think it really depends on how the parents handle it (if they even find out about it). I think it's important for a parent to explain to their kid why people have sex, at the right time of course.

Can lead to false expectations for girls as well, such as that cliche that porn degrades women, but more personal ones as well.

Because children aren't mature enough to understand it. It can lead to an obsession and a bad future. In fact, pornography is harmful to everyone. Stop watching other people to turn yourself on and make yourself feel good. Bad bad bad.

Wow thanks guys, now I'm not so thrilled with the idea of giving up my virginity.

I've watched a lot of porn in my day and I had HUGE expectations for sex, and you know what? When I finally had sex with my girlfriend who I loved more than anything and had been dating for many, many months, I really didn't care that it didn't feel nearly as awesome as it's been made out to be (although I'm sure the condom didn't help) and that I couldn't do nearly all the same positions and so on and so forth. The idea of making love with someone is much better than the actual phsyical execution of it in my opinion.

When I was a minor - the only pornography I ever saw was naked women.

The stuff kids could see on the internet today is scary to say the least. Some of it is scarring to adults let alone kids that haven't even had sex.

Same. It can even be educational. But at the same time -- I understand why it can be harmful. Lets face it, blazin... some are just not as equipped to handle that kind of info as a kid as we were.

Pornography is meant to appeal to fantasies and fetishes, not to accurately depict sexual relationships. Imagine if a child learned about relationships by watching porn. What would he do when the time comes to court a female?

Because it usually only shows sex from the point of view of a dominate male, which is not real life. Boys don't need overexposure to porn and then think that's what all sex is like.

Because a young mind, even a teenage mind will interpret sex in a very immature way. I'm not saying some adults don't do the same but minors are basically 99% likely to do so.

Because of several reasons.

1.Mainstream Pornography contains alot of mysoginistic subtext. Not all of it though.

2.It probably gives teenagers false expectations about "certain parts of their body" :D

That being said I watch alot of porn. and I can't stand all of the fake plasticness of it all. Who has a climax like that? WHO?

It all depends on the person. teens are gonna turn the google image search safety off sooner or later and all you can really do is hope they know not to take everything they see seriousilly on there.

I wouldn't allow my kid to watch porn but if found his stash I wouldn't really punish him for it. I'd confiscate it though.

lets face it. your average porn is far from what you would call an average sexual encounter. while i fully disagree with the idea of censoring nudity it all forms. most porn is just down right vile. the is a huge difference between say a tastefull image involving sex. and 15 guys crowding around a single female to let loose on their face. and often times the way in which women are treated within porn is disgusting. kids are like sponges. they absorb everything they see. and most porn is not something they should be exposed to. they should learn about sex the best way possible. and thats by gowing through puberty and having it themselves. porn should not be anyones first exposure to sex. this is my own opinion though.

To some extent, I think some of the critics of pornography would also be leading people astray from reality. Of the feminists who claim that porn has a "distorted" portrayal of women, and the feminists who continue to deny even scientifically valid gender differences, I'm inclined to assume that some if not many of them are the same feminists, and if that's the case, then it's somewhat hypocritical of those who promote an inaccurate picture to accuse what they're opposed to of promoting an inaccurate picture. And that's not even getting into religious criticisms of it. Ultimately, this kind of thing seems to be a favoritism of one perspective over other perspectives, so that the groups with the most power get to filter what children get to see.

In any case, the problem with the comparison to violent entertainment is that sexual entertainment IS treated worse. Even nudity in entertainment seems to generally be looked at more strictly than violence in entertainment, though that depends on the extent or kind of the violence... but still, if I recall correctly, an R-rating means it's ok for kids to watch it as long as they have adult supervision whereas an X-rating means kids aren't allowed watching it with or without adult supervision; from what I've noticed, it takes some rather intense violence (if not cussing alongside that) to get it up to R, and that's more acceptable than pornography? And even aside from that, there seems to be a stronger taboo against kids looking at porn than against kids playing violent video games or watching violent cartoons. In the end, if they're to be treated the same, the point is the same; people need to be able to distinguish entertainment from reality.

It's harmful because: pornography is disgusting and degrading in general and it's pathetic how we live in a world where pornography even exists. And letting minors view degrading that is a negative influence on a developing mind. It's like giving them alcohol -- it's easier for them to become addicted to it and develop bad habits associated with it, and it's much harder for them to set moral values for themselves and distinguish between what's right and wrong.

matthayter700

Considering most of the pornography I've seen... I still consider my point to be utterly true. There really isn't anything redeeming about the American pornography industry (or most of the pornography "industry" in general). It is flesh on camera for money. It severely undermines a proper image of a loving relationship, something all kids should learn about when they learn about sex. In the primary stages of sexual development, you don't want to expose children to fetishistic material, which a lot of pornography is, especially on the internet. They first need to learn about the basic mechanics of sex and the emotions that go along with it. Not how to have a gang bang, what a dominatrix can do with a candle or other things they should learn about themselves AFTER they become older and more mature, emotionally and sexually.

I am going to talk to my kids about sex before they hit puberty, all the changes that they are about to go through and all the emotional puzzles they will face. I will personally expose them to what I deem to be "proper" depictions of a sexual relationship when it comes time, then let them fool around with pornographic material (I am going to get Sue Johanson's "Sunday Night Sex Show" on DVD, that show pretty much taught me everything I know about sex, my parents never really said much of anything and just gave me some books). The fact is... all teenagers, especially males, get into porn early on and it is essential they learn about REAL sex before they are exposed to the fake entertainment sex that can give false impressions about what sexual relationships are to be like.

Anyone who has seen any amount of "hardcore" pornographic material in their life (and is themselves "properly adjusted") can tell you that it could easily give false impressions. Some of it I personally find disgusting and I'm no '50's-white-picket-fence-conservative-Christian-housewife either.

Hello there. :)

Pornography is not harmful to minors. Pornography is not harmful to anyone. Pornogaphy is just a visual representation of various sexual acts humans can have with one another. By minors, I assume you mean human children, so therefore, no, it would not be harmful for humans to see other humans with the same body parts that they have, engaged in actions that their parents engaged in to create them, and they will engaging in themselves after they hit puberty.

Shame for ourselves really needs to cease. Shame keeps us from fully understanding ourselves.

Never mind the fact that some of the women in them look like they're only getting paid $10 and their pimp's taking eight, Have you ever seen what some of those naughty parts look like on some of them? I've seen snuff films that are less tramuatizing to an 8 year old.

I agree with you. I think it's actually more harmful for minors to hear about porn as being immoral and inapropriate..it then creates an air of this isn't natural...
