I never understood why is it that when a child dies it's considered so much worse than when an adult dies. I am wondering if a child's life is worth more than 1 adult's, then how many adult's lives are equivilent to one kid's life? For example if you had to solve a dilemma of whether to save one kid or a few grown up people.

I think I'd save one random kid over one random adult, but two random adults over one random kid.

There is no quantitative value for a human life.

Still, people tend to mourn kids more than adults because a child has not had a chance to live his/her life.

I would save one child over one adult (unless the adult was someone close to me, then screw the kid) but two or more adults over the child (unless the child was someone close to me, then screw the adults:P)

A child has not yet lived a fulfilled life... An adult has experienced things a child would not have and as a result, people tend to grieve more for a child's passing.

Even still, every life should be regarded as equal.

Depends on how who the kid is and who the adult is.

If you asked me whether I'd rather save Soulja Boy or a 5-year old kid, then it's rather obvious since Soulja Boy's already proved himself to have an intelligence level similar to that of a vegetable, whereas the kid still has a chance to show brains. If I had to choose between Roy Khan and the same kid, though, then my decision would be a little hard since I simply can't imagine living without Kamelot.

It is odd as people in the age range of 20-60 are in their prime in what they can contribute to society. I think it's just because kids haven't gotten to live at all and we see them almost like helpless animals. :?

Well...if X=1 kid and Y=2 adults and Q= all the adults in the world and V= all the children in the world then:

X=Q(Y)/V It's that simple....DUHHHH!!!:P

Well, it all depends on whether they are males or females, too.

Women are time and money. Time is money. So women are money-squared. Money is the root of all evil. This means that women are evil. So you gotta factor that into everything, too.

(Square root of money-squared = evil)

Jokes aside, I'd save those I knew first over those I did not know. If it was two strangers I'd make them play rock-papper-scissors to determine who lives and who dies.

Precisely, without being subjective. 1 death = 1 death. It's not our job to judge whose life is greater than anothers.

What about us adults, the veterans of childhood, you know the people who made it out alive! At least in the US it's no big thing when an adult dies (hell, when you are 20 you are just starting your life, it's not like you have experienced much) ,but when a kid dies, it's a huge tragedy. I guess it's good for news ratings

We are more protective over children than adults. An adult is responsible for themselves while a kid dies it is as if someone failed at something. I would be devastated if one of my children died. They are my legacy. I do feel bad when other people lose their life but the closer the relationship the worse I feel.
