I think you'd need a full mob to go at it at the same time, otherwise the bear would just snap anyone that goes near it like a chopstick with a single swipe.
The only way I can see doing it is dogpiling it to death with a few hundred people.
Still, humans evolved from the "climb a nearby tree and laugh at it" type of animal, not the "Roarrrr!" type of animal, we weren't made for polar bear fighting.

Humans can own polar bears if they're not supposed to only use their bare hands to bring him down.
I can take down a polar bear any day. Squirrels are impossible though. Have you ever tried to get ahold of one of those things?superheromonkey
The trick with squirrels is to chop off their tails first, thier power is all in thier tails, kinda like Samson and his hair except if samson was small and furry and had a tail.
It depends on whether a polar bear can reach around to its back. If not then 3 easily, two to distract it and confuse it while the thrid hides behind a rock and when the bear isn't looking he jumps onto its back, clings on for dear life and repeatedly punches the bear in the head until it collapses at which point they simply need to suffocate it.
you'd need a lot. i'm not sure what a human could even do to the bear.. its not like punching it it going to hurt it much. humans do not have the strength. they'd have to try to suffocate it.
Considering many Grizzly bears don't go down after getting shot a few times with high powered rifles, I highly doubt you could choke or punch it into submission, even with 20 people. Their fat and fur would cushion any blow you threw at it.

I think you'd have to bite its neck. I bet you could chew through to the inside with enough people.
Two kamikaze guys to distract the bear, one to leap onto it's back and push his fingers into the bear's eye sockets. The another five or 6 to join in the pumelling. It can't be far off 10 in total.
Are they allowed to use rudimentsry weapons such as rocks and bits of wood?
