How many of you actually watch what you eat and care about how many calories you take in? I recently got diagnosed with hypoglycemia so I have to watch the sugar I take in and it got me wondering how many people actually care about the nutrition facts.

I tend to go to the extremes. Either I don't pay any attention at all to what I'm eating, or I pay extremely close attention and am highly restrictive of my caloric intake. I've had disordered eating habits for my whole 'adult' life, though. I would say that the average person pays minimal attention to calories. The average person probably has some expectations in mind and keeps track of things loosely.

the only time i pay attention to the nutrition facts on the stuff i eat is if it's late at night and i'm hungry, i won't get something that's high in sugar so that i don't have a hard time falling asleep

I don't watch my calories. I am more conscious of what I eat and drink now that I'm older... but I mainly just look at stuff like sodium, sugar, and proteins. If something has an astronomically high numbers of calories I guess I'd notice but that is very rare.

Nah. It takes the fun out of eating. Just replace all the unhealthy food in your diet with healthy things and you should be fine as far as diet goes.

No. There are four main points of nutrition that I pay attention to: fats, cholesterol, sodium, and fiber. Calories are not on my nutritional radar.

I burn more calories than I eat. I can eat all I want and still be skinny.

I don't like junk food though since they make me feel sick. Mainly just fast food. Some are ok.

Yeah I pretty much pay attention to those only. ^ Especially fiber since it makes me go in a couple minutes. :x

Yup. I have an app for my iPhone called Lose It! which lets me keep track of how many calories I consume each day, how many I burn through exercise, and what the fat, carb, and protein breakdown is.

*tentatively raises hand*. I don't sit there and go "APPLE: 150 CALORIES. OMG" all day or anything, but i read packaging now, and try to not eat huge, oversized portions of things. I'm not obese and have no serious health issues, so I won't beat myself up for eating.

I don't pay attention to anything in the food I eat and I've been underweight my whole life, so much so that every time I've seen a doctor they tell me I'm on the borderline of being too skinny (5th percentile of weight) and to start binging on milkshakes.

I do to a certain extent. I don't keep a journal or whip out a calculator every time I sit down to eat, but my metabolism sucks. I was really fat when I was younger, got taller around 7th grade and started looking good. Now I don't think anyone would accuse me of being skinny right now, but I'm at least comfortable with myself where I don't feel too embarrassed to be in public

When I prepare a meal, I look around for ways to add more calories, but that's about it. I just try to eat more, and will choose the higher calorie food on occasion, I usually don't give a rat's ass though.

I do it because I'm trying to lose weight. Apparently calories are the devil now and you're not supposed to pay attention to them, but I somehow managed to lose 40 pounds by controlling my calorie intake. Go figure. Having a digital scale helps a lot. Just weigh anything that isn't packaged in servings and it's pretty easy to keep track of calories.

for the most part, what gabu does. For some reason I seem to need to keep a rather high fiber content up, otherwise I get problems I don't wanna talk about :? I do look at the amount of calories on things before I buy them though. Since I don't want to buy something too fatty, but once it's purchased I don't really look, or count everything up when I'm ready to eat.

Normally, I do. But I've had the house all to myself this week and all I've had is take-out. On a normal day, I tend to float around 1400-1500.

No need. If you develop appropriate eating habits, and only eat as much as your stomach tells you to--you'll be fine. The problem is most people don't have the knowledge, experience, or understanding of how to develop their eating habits. They allow their feelings to influence their behavior, and don't understand what they are feeling, and essentially have no self control. So in turn this results to them taking on burdening tasks like counting calories.
