Do you consider lying on your back and thrusting your hands into the air a "push up"? Makes sense doesn't it? I can do about 7000.

Around 30-40.

I used to be fat, so I never was good at them.

What's the difference between push-ups and benchpress?

I have question.

What's the difference between push-ups and benchpress?

gamah_killah

Pushups are when you have both feet and both hands planted on the ground(usually) and begin to push up your own body weight.

Benchpress is when you lie down on a bench(on your back) or some other contraption, and push up weight that you've added to a bar.

I don't know if you were being serious or not, but there is a general description.

Benchpress is the harder of the two by far of course.

They work different muscles I believe. Let me go check.

"Pushups

Pushups require strength endurance in the pectorals (chest), anterior deltoids (front portion of the shoulders) and triceps (back part of the upper arm), not to mention strong abdominals and lower back held isometrically while performing the exercise with proper form. To figure out what is your "weak link" that requires more strength endurance, pay close attention to where you fatigue on a set to failure (meaning, do as many repetitions as you possibly can). If you start to sag or collapse in the middle, then your core (abs/back) needs work; if you can't push up from the floor, your chest is weak; and if you can't lock out at the top of the movement, your triceps are the limiting factor."

Benchpress

"The muscles strengthened are the triceps, anterior and middle deltoids, pectoralis major and minor, and wrist flexors (grip). Also, the rotator cuff and biceps work as shoulder stabilizers and are slightly strengthened with the bench press."

Benchpress is the harder of the two by far of course.

TheSystemLord1

Of course.

edit: So for the muscles that pushups and benchpress both work, with the ability to add more weight during benchpress, you're going to get better results.

Well, like perfect pich-ups where you chin goes all the way down to like 3 inches fro the ground, you keep your back straight, in one set, etc., only 18 (last time I counted).

Seeing how many variations there are it varies
However, doing them from straight arms to chin on ground with arms at medium width, elbows going out I can do 65.
Medium width, arms going back: 40
Diamond: 30
Wide: 35
Hands beside hips: 30

Yes you do have an excuse, since chicks don't naturally grow muscle, they need to work for it.

Doing a proper push-up, 30. I can probably do more, but I usually do 4 sets of each.
