I was thinking about getting a very good headset for my PS3 like a turtle beach or something like that (i don't know much about headsets) and i was wondering how much better does it make a game?

I love BF:Bad Company and it sounds amazing with a regular T.V. but i have heard with the great headsets it sounds even better. Same thing with a game like COD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine has a Trident headset, It doesn't necessarily make the game better, but the sound is great especially if you have a standard tv. You can also use the headset for movies, and regular channel surfing.

Not that much better. For me aslong as I can hear the game and the people talking in it that is all that matters. Go ask this in one of the game forums.

A lot better. Mic quality means a lot.

I have a pair of Sennheiser headphones, theyre amazing. Unfortunately I stepped on them and snapped off the right speaker :(

I currently use a crappy $5 mic and it sucks, but I had a set of logitech headset and they were great.

I think 30-40 bucks should get you all you need, but 20-30 is reasonable as well. I think my logitech ones were like 25

If you're willing to go ALL out (by all out I mean 150-300 dollars), then yes, it will make a difference. If you're looking at something from 30-70 dollars it won't make much difference.

I have a Logitech PS3 headset. Works pretty well. It has some glitches, though. Like it'll make me echo sometimes. Or sometimes it'll make me sound weird (usually deeper, scratchy, or with a "whisper" voice like I'm speaking through a sock)

I got the 50 dolla, turtle beach headset for my 360. I love it. its like getting an amazing sound system for 50 dollars. It is better for chat as well. Especially when playing atmospheric games like Bioshock, Arkham Asylum, etc.it makes the experience that much more immersive. Only issue is not being able to hear in the real world, people are always sneaking up on me and yelling at me and i dont know they are there.

Only get one if you have friends who will be playing with you, otherwise it's kind of pointless. Unless you're going to play some PC games in which a high quality headset is a good investment.

I would say get a surround sound system (home theater in a box works fine) to enjoy a game like Battlefield:BC especially. The main reason being is that the PS3 supports DTS 5.1 which is a step above Dolby Digital 5.1. BF:BC supports this format and so do many other games, and i find that there is a pretty noticable difference.

As for headsets, id say get a 5.1 pair if you want the best quality, i dont know to much about brands to give a descent opinion though. I have a cheap pair of Turtle Beach ones (stereo though) and they do immerse you into the game but definetly by yourself a quality pair if you do choose to go with headphones.

If you want quality surround, get the Tritton AX Pros. If you want wireless, get the turtle beach (Mics might be 360 only though, Tritton AX Pro has mic support for PS3 and 360.) You miss quality of the sound just using TV speakers.
