Topic in title.

I'm just curious, and bored. The thought came into my mind after watching some stuff on Hulu. You know, since Hulu's infamous for having a bunch of ads jammed packed into one video. So I figured I'd ask the question here and see what you guys had to say.

Also, when I included the word "views" in the question I'm talking about stuff like PSAs and what not.

they play a very minor role. All they do is slightly spark an interest for to later (if i remember) look up the product to see what it actually is. But that rarely happens, i usually know about the product way before I actually see an ad on it.

A lot - if you advertise too much I'll make sure I don't buy/consume your product.

For example, I visit a certain type of website and they kep advertising "Don Jon", which will gurantee I never watch the movie.

As in see an ad and immediately go out and buy the product....... no (Unless I'm high and Taco Bell ad comes on)

I buy stuff based on past experience and research. I awlays compare products before I buy them, like phones, laptops, clothes, etc. And If I've had problems with a particular brand, for example I'll never buy an HTC phone again because of the horrible experience I had with my Inspire.

Certain advertisements will catch my attention and cause me to look further into the product, but I never buy something just because I saw it in a commercial.

Zero, as I always try to inform myself on anything I need to buy before I actually buy it.

Given the subversive nature of advertisements, probably more than I think.

Sometimes a lot if I'm already interested in the product or concept, but I tend to critique ads and wonder what they're ACTUALLY presenting me with. It's usually nothing about their product, and gives me no reason to actually buy it. I'm often extremely critical of advertisements and I think that's a good thing. Like no matter how much Febreze tells me their products are like being on an exciting vacation, I know they're just chemical stink masked by vaguely tropical scents.

I mostly have no idea what the advertisement is about.

I hardly watch tv and I rarely see ads, haven't stood in front of the tv for a good 5 or so years. When I see an ad it just doesn't spark me at all, and most of the time they try to do irrelevant things about the product itself, which makes no sense to me at all.

This is how most ads look to me these days.

The less info you give on your product.. The less people will start questioning it.

Makes sense. Not a very good way to sell product to me since I do my research before purchasing something.

I can say that advertisements don't really affect me. But I'd wager money that most people will say exactly the same thing, since admitting that advertisements affect them compromises their self-identity and free will. It's basically admitting to being a mindless sheep, and who the hell is gonna gladly admit to that? So...why are there still advertisements? And I don't mean that they're still around in the same way that leprosy is still around. No, they're everywhere. It's nearly impossible to avoid them, a $hitload of money is being poured into advertisements. Would that still be happening if advertisements didn't work? With the amount of money on the line, it's not as if people don't exactly research this $hit before funding the stuff. So...yeah. I almost certainly get influenced by advertisements.

Advertisements rarely have an effect on how I feel about a product.
