I'm usually very nervous before speaking, very very nervous. But as I get going it gets the exact opposite, comfortable and I could easily talk in front of the masses. I did literally almost collapse in front of a class of 20 giving a speech, I had to sit down and it was embarassing, I'm very hit or miss on them

I love them. i get up there and i try to be as entertaining as i can. this may include yelling, flailing of limbs, talking with an accent, etc. i try to make it fun for me as if i was listening to me speak. so far, its worked very well.

Just try to have fun with it. I took an argument class last quarter where we had to do debates and mock trials. Nobody is going to care about what you say anyway and it will be forgotten by the end of class. If it helps, have a speech typed up to present. I always like to be spontaneous and come up with things on the spot but if you're nervous you run the risk of blanking out.

I'm a music major and I have to do performances in my classes almost every week and I found the more I did it the easier it got. The same applies to public speaking. Practice doing it in front of family and friends.

I get very, very nervous when I have to do something in front of the class. I actually just had to read a part in Othello out-loud to the class. It really didn't help that not only was it written in what ever the hell Shakespeare writes in but my teacher liked to yell at me when I messed up a line. :?

It's ironic because I've been told I'm a great speaker in general conversations.

Quite nervous. In front of an audience I know, not so much, but when surrounded by people who I don't know very well, yes, I get nervous.

I don't know. Whenever one is coming up I either get really nervous or comfortable, and then I do the opposite of what I was expecting to do =\

Public speaking is one of my biggest fears. I hate speaking in front of a group of people, even if the group isn't very large. I don't have a lot of confidence at all, so I just get really nervous in front of people. I start stuttering, sweating, shaking, and getting all clammy. I can hardly even answer a question or read a passage aloud in class. I get ridiculously nervous.

I'll usually get "butterflies in my stomach" before a public speech or speech in front of my classroom, but once I get started, it feels a little better.

I don't get very nervous before speaking, but when I get up there, I have to keep myself from losing it. I stammer and go off-track often.

No. And for some reason I like it better when it's spur of the moment. Now that hasn't happened a lot, but I prefer it that way.

If i am prepared and well rehearsed then i am not nervous at all but if i don't really know what i am going to say then i am bad and nervous.

What helped me in speech class, and what could help you, is i just think "Well, by tomorow, nobody is even going to remember my speech and within a week nobody is ever going to think about it again except me." Basically i believe there is nothing the audience is going to do to you that could affect you for a long time..unless you make it. The audience isn't about to get up and attack you if you mess up or miss a word, they aren't going to remember your slip ups or you or your speech...i just think "well, there is nothing i should really be afraid of", then i feel better knowing that life will go on no matter how the speech goes.

Yes no matter how well prepared I am I still get incredibly nervous before presenting. Usually my fall back is written text. If things are going bad then just read and it will be fine.

I have no problem with public speaking. I actually love being the center of attention, so I usually thrive when it comes to public speaking. Being a Theatre major also helps.

Well, up until recently I was pretty afraid of it. My leg use to spaz out, and I shook and got really nervous before most things, and still get nervous before. But after joining the debate team at my high school last year I've done pretty well. This year at university my professor had us do a 10 minute presentation that focused on the nuances of public speaking. I actually nailed it and did really well, stayed away from monotony and didn't shake in fear behind the podium, or lock the podium in a death grip. Just remember to move around a bit, just talk to the audience.

its hard enough for me to speak to one person, let alone the public, so you could say I am very nervous. Always managed to pull good grades in any SCOM classes tho so I must not be that bad.

Well, I ace'd the last presentation I got so I'm pretty decent, I just can't make up things on the spot well when public speaking (ie. I need to be somewhat prepared)

Right, I really can't think of a situation where I'd speak publicly without a "rough draft" in my head.

For me, it depends on the audience. I know there are some people who just pre-judge you the moment you walk through the door and I would certainly not feel confident then. However, when you make some good friends, get on with people around you, I expect you could easily speak how you would expect to.Thorpe89
Personally, I think it is easier in front of a bunch of people you hardly know. If you mess up in front of friends or people you genreally know well, you have to interact with those people a lot of the time.

Depends if I'm prepared or not. It's pretty boring starting a speak with "Uh...". But it's not really a problem, from the 'speaking in public' part. More the 'oops, should've prepared'.

I once talked infront of 600 people, that many eyes and ears directed at you, well it's really quite hard to comprehend... But, I did OK, although I was a bit nervous.

Well, a few years back, I couldn't take public speakings, I would shake like hell, and my mind would stop working properly. But I'm dealing with it, and I'm getting quite used to it, I've even developed an ability to improvise if things go wrong.
