I usually give up when the ff are bad:

Games - first 3 hours

Movies - first 15-20 minutes

TV/anime series - first 5 episodes

Books - first 3 chapters

A bad game I'll give an hour to. Unless I bought it myself, in which case probably about 3 hours, just to get my moneys worth.

TV shows, if the first episode is bad I wont watch the rest of it.

Books I tend not to give up on, because most the books I've read have been good.

Ad films I'll tend to just sit through to the end, unless somebody suggests something better

I don't mind tv series but i usually give up on films in about 45mins if nothing intresting's happening. I usually stick with books for a while to about half way through cause you're being introduced to new things constantly but after that they usaually don't getany better so if it's boring me i give up. I hardley ever give up with games unless it's an MMO then i give vup after the first 15lvls or so

Games: 1 hour. Sorry, if there's nothing good, exciting, or promising within the first hour, I don't care about the rest.
Movies: 45 minutes. I did this with Be Kind Rewind.. worst movie ever.
TV Series: 2-3 episodes. No more than that.
Books: This one is tough.. I'll get half-way through but I have finished books that were uninteresting to me. I finished Catcher in the Rye and The Millennium Bug even though they were some of the worst books I have ever read.

Games: Typically by the first hour.
Movies: I generally stay and watch for the most part. I've only walked out on Vantage Point.
TV Series: Typically halfway through the first episode.
Book: Typically the first two chapters.

There's no actual way to determine this however, because I've experience entertainment media that starts off really good but has a sour point near the middle and depletes completely at the end. This happens most for TV series when a series can go stale with a new staff or cast. Typically, an entire season would have to tuck me in before I give up on a show I once formerly liked. For games, I'd generally have to get stuck for an hour for one segment before I give up.

Games: 30 minutes to an hour, if it isnt to my liking by then I dont bother to play any further.

TV: usually the first show, if not sometimes the commercials for it. If it looks stupid Ill find something else to watch.

Books: within a few pages

Films: I do my best to keep a nuetral view right to the end, some times I cant do this, like 10,000BC....wow, I hated that film, after about 10 minutes it lost all my attention and once you get into that mood and become negative towards a film you pick every detail apart.
