There's a girl that I like that I plan on asking to prom, which is on May 7 at my school. I don't have any problems with talking to her or anything like that, since I've been friends with her since childhood. The thing is, I just haven't found the right time/place to really pop the question yet. We do talk regularly but I really want us to be alone for it, and that just hasn't come for some reason.

What I'm worried about is not asking her in time before another guy asks her, since there's only a few weeks left before prom. I'm planning on asking her sometime next week, which is when I will perform at a guy's talent show/pageant-type event that's going on at my school on Wednesday. She told me that she's coming to the show and looks forward to seeing my talent, and maybe around that time is when I plan on asking her.

So what do all of you think? When should I ask the girl I like to prom, when there's just over three weeks left?

Ask her ASAP. You want to make sure you are the first to ask. If she says no then you can at least have time to look for a second option.

I think you should do it as soon as you can. Basically, the first time you see an opportunity, you should go for it. Girls tend to like to have enough notice before big events like prom, so I think you shouldn't put it off for too long...especially since you say that you don't have any problem with talking to her. Asking her around the time of the talent show might be nice, but there is the possibility that someone else might ask her before then.

I'd do it as soon as possible. When I was in HS I waited to long and someone else asked her before me. :(

Do it now. if she's not buying her dress as-is off the rack, it'll take time to get alterations done. If she's buying it online, itll first have to get to her, then she'll probably need to get it altered, which will take even longer.

...Youre Prom is May 7th? Honestly, you should have asked her a long time ago, so get on that ASAP. Sorry if that sounds insensitive or something, but trust me. Get on it!

Oh Talent Show/Pageant doesnt sound like a horrible idea. So long as it is coming up soon and there isnt anyone else who wants to ask her.

Basically, ask her ASAP.

You're already really late, do it asap. Be prepared to be turned down though because she probably already has a date.

Enough time for you to rent a suit, for her to buy a dress, etc.. In other words, yesterday. Hopefully tomorrow will do. :P

I would think so, but strangely not too many guys are just as crazy about her as they used to. Toward the beginning of the year around Homecoming time, there were like 5 guys who I heard wanted to ask her and before I even considered asking her one of my friends had already claimed her as his date. But somehow, she isn't quite as popular as she was at the time, probably because she doesn't eat lunch with the popular kids anymore. I was talking to them at lunch one day and asked them why she and her fraternal twin sister don't sit with them anymore, and one of the guys at the table said that he "kicked her [fraternal twin sister's] b**** a** out," despite being that guy's date to homecoming. I think the reason why this affects my love interest's stand in the crowd is because they always stick together, and she would never leave her sister alone no matter what.

As much as I admit this is more a bad thing than anything else, and as much as I don't want to sound selfish or insensitive, this just may be my chance to have her be my prom date this year. As far as I'm concerned, there are no guys particularly interested in her at this time, but I'm not going to take that for granted or get overconfident. I really plan on asking her, and luckily I have the support from several friends of mine who are offering me good advice (including the guy who took her to homecoming early this year, and even her twin sister). This just might work out for me, but I'm totally nervous because this is the first time I've ever asked anyone to be my date of any kind for any reason, ever.

Dayum son, you should have asked her WAAAY before now, it takes a while to order/rent your suit and make sure it matches her dress, and you gotta order limo/flowers.

Ask her now. I procrastinated, and when I was walking up to ask her she had just come out of the office with a vase of roses. Just do it, man, before it's too late.

Ask her now. If another guy asks her and she accepts, you might regret for quite a while. Just think about that future feeling of regret and pain should you not ask her soon enough.

What if she was just holding them for someone else?

Haha just kidding, buddy. I feel your pain.

Ask her now, what are you waiting for? She needs to buy a dress, you need a tux, and whatever other plans you're going to make.

As soon as possible. She does have to get a dress, shoes, and make up bought and such so she needs time.
