How specific are you at catagorizing the genres of your music files?

Do you just label the majority of them "rock" or do you go into subgenres such as punk/metal/death metal/etc? Or do you just leave them alone and not pay attention to genres?

I usually don't go all that specific with files for my PMP, but for my archive files, I go as specific as possible. Though I don't assign more than one genre to a song. I'm very anal about my tags.

I go a little OCD with my music files. They're all capitalized and are assigned specific genres and I make sure to copy and paste their album art in to the little WMP squares.

When I first got my iPod I took days organizing everything. I had it all perfect and then I got more music and had to do it again. Rinse Repeat like 4 more times and I just gave up all together. Now its either Rock/Metal/ Rap/ or R&B pretty much it

I am very specific about the catagorization of not only my music but the catagorization of the music of others. Especially with all the people out there pinning on punk to their music genres. I am not a punk, I am a goth, but I know a great many actual punks and out of respect for them I seek to keep the catagorization of punk pure of anything that could corrupt the genre. It should be noted that I am also a Grammar Nazi.

I usually go for rock (because I like rock music) then classical (since most of the remaining songs are classical songs XD)

What a boring reply, try contributing to help make this a more interesting topic next time.. Anyways I don't really sort my files, the music player i use finds them and sorts them itself, and then just lists all the music in order which i just make a play list from. But i guess i wouldn't sort my music genres so specifically.

I don't. I tag everything perfectly except genre, because I blatantly refuse to categorize my music.

I have about 4 main genres. Rock, Hip Hop, electronic, and reggae. Under rock there's metal (tons of subgenres), progressive rock, classic rock, and alternative (tons of subgenres) . Under electronic there's trance, techno, and house.
