Contact a game developer looking to hire. You can go on their website or attempt to contact them for information.

That depends on what you want to do. You need to learn skills before you can make a good video game. Graphics design is one place to start.

Depends on what the company requires? If they are well known then you will probably need experience so it is best off to start with an indie developer.

Learn UDK, 3dSM, Maya, Unreal Ed, Photoshop, maybe some Java and C++ and start making mods for games. You will need a PC with a dedicated video card and not just integrated graphics. Build a portfolio of mods for popular games like CounterStrike or CoD games. Showing you know how to make textures, character and object models as well as levels can give you a leg up on getting into the industry over someone who just went to school to learn about it.

CounterStrike started out as a mod for UT based on Rainbow Six and the two mod makers were hired by Sierra to make a stand alone version of the game. I can think of at least 3 other modders who were hired by studios and am sure there are many more.

Go to System Wars and post there as much as you can until someone from the video game industry notices you and starts throwing money at you.

Make games. I'm not saying that degrees or certificates won't help, but video games are "art". And in pretty much any artistic field, the single most important prerequisite is making art. If you want to be a musician, then you've gotta start making music. If you want to be a painter or a photographer, then you've gotta start making paintings and photographs. If you want to have a career making video games, then you start making games. Of course, "the videogame industry" is a very vague term, it helps to have a more specific idea of what particular role you want to have in the making of video games. Sure, degrees and certificates can help, but the most important thing is quality of work. And you get that by working. The Beatles didn't become rock legends by getting a degree in rocking out, they picked up their instruments, started making music, and they worked their asses off until they got lucky enough to get a break.

i am sure you are aware of this more than I am,but many different people are involved in making games.

I dont hink you need to be a coder per se.

You can be good at writing stories, designing characters, making music, marketing, etc etc

So maybe it is better to figure out where your talent lies and hone that, rather than restricting your self.

i got involved in the gaming industry as a translator and had not prior experience or connection before that so you never know
