Okay so my current band has been offered its first gig which will be a good size and several of our members are only 17 (drinking age is 18 here). Will we be allowed to play in a pub if we dont drink?

Or whats a way we can get to play in there legally? can we get guardians or parents to accompany or what..

don't tell them you're under 18, just be like "i'm in the band", they probably don't give a crap anyways.

Surely everyone turns a blind eye unless someone looks like they are 10 years old. UK, right? I don't see a problem...

If they don't allow you to play, convince them otherwise with the a badass guitar solo. No one can deny the power of rock.

We're talking about the UK, right? Here, you can enter a pub if you're over 14, as long as you order a meal. If you're under 14, the cutoff is 9pm (on condition you're accompanied by an adult). I think you're free to enter a pub at any time if you're over 16, but you can't order more than one light aolcoholic drink. Either way, check the specifics with the establishment itself.

Phucc yeah! They will like anything you can throw at them, and I doubt they will care about legal technicalities.

Aha, New Zealand. This is all I could dredge up:

As for people under 18, it depends on the particular type of area they are in within the licensed premises:

  • Restricted areas – These include pubs and bottle stores. Under-18s aren't allowed to be in a restricted area, regardless of whether they are with a parent or guardian. The penalty is a maximum fine of up to $1,000.
  • Supervised areas – These include pub restaurants and family lounge bars. The laws are less strict than for restricted areas: people under 18 can go into supervised areas if they are with a parent or guardian, and they don't have to be having a meal. The penalty is a maximum fine of $1,000 for being in a supervised area without a parent or guardian. Under-18s can also drink alcohol there, but only if the parent or guardian gives them the alcohol to drink. In other words, the person serving the alcohol can't give it to the young person directly: they must give it to the parent or guardian.
  • Undesignated areas – These include all other areas of licensed premises, such as hotel rooms and TV lounges, and also supermarkets. There are no restrictions on under-18s being in undesignated areas.

It's not illegal for a person who's under 18 to be in a restricted area or to be unaccompanied in a supervised area if they're doing this at the request of a Police officer.

So it looks like you'll be ok if you're playing in the restaurant area provided you're with an adult. But, again, it can't hurt to call and ask. The proprietor will know all the regulations and loopholes.

I honestly don't think they'd care. You're performing, not drinking.

Just have a chat with the bartender about your job and the economy and women and stuff and he'll assume that you're over 18.

It works in the movies, it'll totally work in real life.

Rubbish! Kiwi's dont care for American BS Puritanical law enforcement. They don't give a crap as long as no one is getting hurt, which is almost never the case.

do you know if there is a cover charge? bars with a cover more often have a system where minors can get in but wont have a mark that allows them to drink. if not, just go in with the band and hope they dont card at the door.

Well, the pub could get shut down and fined out the ass for allowing underage drinking. I'm sure they'd let you play there again after that. One year is one year.

If you're just the band and you look mature enough then it'd probably be all goods.

build a magic time machine that travels through time at the speed of regular time, get in this time machine for one year, when you come out you should be one year older.
