Well im an incoming freshmen and to tell you the truth, im nervous as hell. My parents are packing a hell of alot of stuff for my dorm room amd im not sure if its to much. three people will be in my dorm room so it might get tight. The change fomr high school to college will also be difficult for me. I enjoy what college life is like with the clubs and all but i think its going to be tough for me the first few days

Dude, it will be fun. Just starting making friends as soon as you get there. Start with your three roommates/suitemates, and go from there. Classes are important, but still, you gotta have fun too.

Well in America you stay on at high school until 18 I think. In Britain you go to primary school from 4-10 yo, secondary school from 11-16 and at 16 you either leave to go into full time work or leave to go to 6th form college 16-18 yo. I'm currently going into my second and last year of 6th form college :)

My first day was actually pleasant due to the fact that I go to a community college and I took night classes, so I ended up meeting a lot of people who were at least five years older than I was. The only people who were around my age were those foreign exchange students who really made an effort to get A's in the class. It was very interesting and I felt very confident because of the fact that I was pretty much the youngest in almost all of my classes and a lot of those people were very awesome to talk to -- nobody got on my nerves.

My first day:

I came late and went to the wrong auditorium. (A Typical hungry_bunny-thing to do). I located the guidance councilor though who was really nice, she showed me the way to the place were all my class mates were sitting. DILEMMA 2, there were over 300 people sitting in the grass divided into I-don't-know-how-many groups (the groups were getting to know each other), after asking around I finally found a small group with 12 people from my c|ass I sat down, in the middle of my introduction I hear my cell phone ringing... that's my REAL group leader calling me to check if I'm alright, I tell her I'm sitting in the grass and when I stand up I see her waving at me... I say goodbye to the group I just sat in and walk over there with an embarrassed expression on my face. Everything went pretty smoothly after that.

Not the best first impression but it was a great little story for the college parties I went to that week :P during that morning a certain sentence repeated itself in my head "it could have been worse".

I'm in the same position as you. I haven't thought much about what to take... my mum gave me some towels, cooking stuff, bedding just this evening. I figure if it can be taken, take it. >_>

My first day was fine because not much actually happened. It went downhill after that though. But you've been in the freshmen position before, so you know what it's like. ;)

I find freshmen funny. You can always tell who they are. They tend to dress like they did in high school and look scared going around campus.

A year ago I took a class (junior) with mostly freshmen. It was like night and day compared to the upper classes. I wonder if I was that lame at 18 :P

My classes don't start til Monday. But it's mostly night, so I won't see any of you younger buggers.

Things people often forget to bring with them that are essential are: printer, stapler, flip flops for the shower, power strips, alarm clock, coffee machine(you'll need it in the morning). Make sure you have those things. I think you'll like being in the dorms at first, it's a good way to meet new people and friends that will last a lifetime. Hell, my best friends I met in the dorms and we're currently living together off campus.

If your dorm iis like mine was, it's going to be cramped as hell. We had three people in a living space the size of my bedroom. It sucked suffice to say. And also if you're going to drink you have to be really cautious. Most campuses don't allow drinking in the dorms and RAs can be pricks. I got writted up for drinking 8 times during my stay and pouring that liquid gold down the drain is painful everytime. They probably should have kicked me out, but I have a reputation as a good student so I guess they were easy on me. Always have a place to hide your stuff in an emergency, closets work best. At my school they couldn't search closets without permission.

Showers can be weird if you're not used to public showering. It's really not that bad once you get used to it. I would wake up at like 2:00pm and walk down the halls to the showers with nothing but a towel on with people hanging out in the halls. Most people really don't mind this sort of thing, especially if you know a lot of people. Just be careful not to lock yourself out of your room or let your towel slip off. Getting locked out when you're pretty much naked sucks.

That's onto my next thing, always make sure you have your keys on you at all times. You don't want to be locked out when you need to print out an important term paper or whatever. And also always lock your door when you leave, my iPod was stolen from my room and I've never had one since. You are responsible for your stuff now, don't expect mommy to lock up after you.

Finally, take it light on the campus food. I gained a lot of weight from eating that garbage. It's a grease and fat all you can eat buffet. You'll love it at first and loathe it by the 2nd week in. The freshman 15 is not a myth, you will gain weight from the garbage mess hall food. Being off that crap for a year now, I've lost a considerable amount of weight and back to what I was before college.

Have fun in the dorms. I loved it and loathed it. Believe me, I was bloody happy to get out of there when the time came but I would never want to trade my experiences.

I don't have classes with freshmen this year either. In fact, I don't have my first classes until 4PM. It's great being a senior. 8)

I prefer the morning classes. Sure I can't sleep late, but after class I have an entire day to do whatever I want.

My college is a 40 minute drive away too. So when my last class ends at 10pm... urgh!

I dont start till the middle of next week but I remember my frist day in class. THe professor ask for me to stand up and say my name and I stuttered for a good minute (I have a serious stuttering problem, sometime I dont even want to read out loud). I was really embarrassed as a couple of classmates started laughing.

Interesting to say the least. I really liked how much extra time I had compared to high school, and how I could just hang out with friends between classes. The eye candy on campus was a feast for the eyes. Thats the best part of college.
