I am a big fan of H.P Lovecraft's short stories and i personally prefer htme over Stephen King and Clive Barker. But i am surprised that his stories haven't been transfered to movies like those of King and Barker. I mean yeah there are some TV movies but nothing on the scale of Shining. Does anybody here knows why cuz i really would like to see his stories in the movie format and i think that if done correct;y can give some new blood to a dying gnre in Hollywood. Well thts just my opinion and i would like to see what do you guys think.

I'm a fan of his works too. but I'd rather not see his work on film. It would ruin some of the awe and mystery of his works. I don't like seeing artistic representations of the deities and creatures either. I find the imagination to be a great thing.

But if they could pull off a movie in which there is no representation of his creatures, only their aftermath/effect. then I'd be all for it. Leve your audience thinking

Actually, two of his stories were made into films in the mid-80's: Re-Animator and From Beyond. You could get both of them on DVD.

Not even close to King in terms of style. Lovecraft's writings are far more in-depth, thought-provoking and palpably atmospheric, and far more descriptive in writing style. He is very "wordy", but if you can grasp the essence and follow his writing, it offers something that no other author has ever offered, in many ways.

As far as films go, there are a few films that have been made based off of Lovecrat's stories and the Cthulhu Mythos:

Dagon (a must-see and perhaps the best), From Beyond and a four-part film (four "mini-films") called The Necronomicon.

A few other films have been based off of Lovecraft's writings as well, just look around.

Even John Carpenter's "In the Mouth of Madness" is loosely based on some extremely Lovecraftian concepts.
