I didn't realize the American flag is a negative image.bt_the_great_78
it's not. it's just the cheesiness behind it.
They edited it out of the foreign copy as it may offend people (WTF). Even though i'm pretty sure i saw it and i never went to America to see it. Hell i don't see what the big fuss is about anyway, its just a flag. Now if he landed on it and started blowing his nose on it or used it as a cape or something, i'd see peoples point, but what the hell you can't go anywhere in America these days without a giant flag flapping in your face. Hell they probably had to cut about 50 scenes out of the film because there are just that many flags in the US they can't get the shots they want... Making the movie flagless, wouldn't depict an actual America...Apollo5000
you obviously don't get it. it's not the fact there was a giant flag , it's just how they filmed it and put it all together. Spidey is leaping towards the fight, the crowds cheering, and lands in front of this huge waving american flag. although, i agree it's not that big a deal but still makes the whole scene seem a bit corny.

But him dancing in the middle of the street for no apparent reason thats fine we can deal with that. But American Flag in an American film, set in New York which is in America....damn corny as hell.... I don't really care that much about it, they can try and make Spider-Man out to be a patriotic hero all they want, but it'll take more than a flag in the background to do that. Didn't he land on a flagpole in the second one? I really see a lot more points in this film that should be discussed (i.e the screwing over of Venom or Raimi confusing Venom for Carnage when writing the script or even the fact that Venom was an afterthought) more than a flag that was on screen for about 2 seconds (ironically not that much shorter than Venoms screen time).[QUOTE="GreatDecay"][QUOTE="Apollo5000"]They edited it out of the foreign copy as it may offend people (WTF). I mean, it was really, really weird and actually kind of creepy. I have nothing against the American flag or America in general, I just feel that that MASSIVE flag was overdoing it.QW-34
Yeah, it was kinda weird... I think they're trying too much. :?Â
Spider-Man has to be our new American hero now that Cap America has taken a bullet.videogamer456

There was actually an audible groan from the audience when I went.
The flag was overdoing it. Period. Completely contrived, like several other points in the film. To anyone else outside of the States who sees this movie, it definitely feels like the filmmakers took the opportunity to toot the U.S.' horn, though it's hard to say why.Â
