... I actually liked the Hunger Games before it was cool.

It was intoduced to me a couple years ago in my college intro to liturature course.

They are pretty entertaining books - really exciting; they read like a fast paced coridor shooter while at the same consisting of mostly pretty solid writing. It's a shame that there are so many comparisons to Twilight being made. Had I not gotten into the books earlier I probably would have been severely turned off of the series.

I'm excited for the movie although the sountrack is the ultimate mixed bag (Danny Elfman vs Taylor Swift, Maroon 5 et al)

The movie looks terrible, looks like they're making it very Twilight-y. But I heard the books are good, I'm either going to pick up Book 1 of this or Game of Thrones or Girl with Dragon Tattoo :P

Book is OK, but the movie looks kind of dumb. Looks too emo to me.

Finished reading the book a week ago and quite liked it. Not too sure if they'll be able to capture the feel of the book in movie form though but I'm eager to see how it goes.

Oh wow. I just finished reading the first yesterday, and it is probably one of the worst books I've ever read. If you like the premise (kids forced to fight and kill each other) go read the vastly superior Battle Royale. I honestly finished reading THGs not understanding how it got popular at all. The action is tame and boring, the characters are inconsistent, the setting is bland and there is practically no detail in this world, there is too much romance, and the style of the book being written in first person pretty much ruined any chance at it being interesting (because Katniss isn't interesting).

And frankly, I find her grammar and sentence structure annoying to read. It almost always reads like:

I went to sit down. There was water on the table. I picked it up and drank some. It was tasty.

But seriously, if you haven't yet, go read battle royale. It's pretty good.

I read all 3 books in 2 days. I basically read them straight through. They sure have a way of keeping your attention. Sure it's not a literary masterpiece, but the story telling is excellent. I loved the books and can't wait for the movie. As is apparent by my user icon. Jennifer Lawrence is great actress, with her in the lead I expect big things from the movie.

The books were awesome, and definitely not the feel-good family-friendly book of the year material. They might make best action book though. I just hope the movies live up to the books.

Don't go opening night. That's never a good idea for a popular flick.

A very controlled city (think 1984) has these annual games in which kids are chosen to kick the crap out of each other using brutal weapons and tactics. Basically, its the story of one girl who takes the place as one of these kids, and does it instead of her much younger (and weaker) sister who was originally chosen. Violent, but awesome.

I made the mistake of going with a friend on the midnight launch. By god, the amount of girlish screams was terrible, especially because they probably already knew what was going to happen.

Couple of my friends went opening night to Harry potter and hated it. They went again a week later and said the experience was phenomenally better. I plan to see THG on Saturday night in a pretty small city. It shouldn't be to terrible. Then over Easter break when I'm back home I'll see it in IMAX. I won't however opening day, the atmosphere will be terrible.

They're children books; You can't really expect much from them.
