Hypothetically..if Russia DID launch a nucluar strike on the US....

would they hit a major city? ( i.e. New York City, Chicago, San Fransisco, Etc)

That's taken from your original post. But yes, I do know that technically a bomb would wipe out an area larger than just NYC. Maybe you should have said what if Russia had hit the east coast in general.

Russia would'nt shoot just one, I think they would most likely used like 5-6 ICBMs and target ALL major cities. After all, a nuke is not a warning or a disorienting blow, its purpose is to either stop the war or kill anyone left on the other side.Penguin_dragon

Now days we dont use city busters. Nukes in the 1-30 kiloton range would suffice. Its about precision, not about how many people you can kill with one bomb.

If they did use a city buster, which would probably be around 30 megatons, the damage would be pretty extensive. I would say no more than 8 million dead if it it New York and that would be mega worst case scenario.

You watch to many movies, its not possible to kill any more than 10 million with one bomb unless you counted in the fallout. A full assault on some of America's 20 major cities would probably kill no more than 30 million. Most people dont live in the city itself.

Wouldnt matter. The entire world would go into the biggest depression ever thought of. 20-25% of the worlds econmy gone is pretty major.

Unlike back in the cold war days, more countries are getting just a tad more agravative with the US than before. Mostly because of this useless 'war on terror' instead of sticking with Afghanistan. All just to finish 'daddys work' sadly.

I can see them hitting DC, LA, New York, and cities with miltiary important stuff like Tampa (for MacDill, where CENTCOM is located), But they aslo they may have to hit Stuttgart, Germany (where US European Command is located, and I am sure the Germans will not be happy about that).

The aftermath would be alot of dead and an American and NATO counter attack with nukes.

I think the Europens not buying their gas would be the least of their worries if they nuked the US, they will have to be more worried about the US returning the favor.
