There is a topic on this page that asks if you accept or do not accet homosexual marriage. I do, and I would like to explain why, if I may. I am psychology student, and hope to become a PHD in the field of child psychology and development. I also come from a long line of family who has worked in the government, and so I humbly propose that it is possible to legally sanctify homosexual marriage without the consent of the church. According to the Bill of Rights, church and state are seperate, which is all fine and good. Suppose you want to get legally married and the church says no. Then you have a problem. It would be however, theoretically possible for two homosexual individuals to have a union, of physical assets and have them seen by the state as having the same rights as a heterosexual couple in a marraige sanctioned by the church. This union could identify them as a couple, and allow them the same rights as any normal married couple, without forcing the church to obey the state. Not being homosexual, I cannot say if members of the homosexual community would oppose this, but I honestly and humbly believe that every person, regardless of race, religion, preference or creed has the human right to be happy.

Also, it should be understood that sexuality is not genetically induced, but in fact influenced. One of the studies I had the opportunity of researching first hand occurs while a woman is pregnant for the second or third time (sometimes more). When a woman is pregnant, she provides nutrients for her forming baby, and her environment and genetics will influence those of the unborn child. What is also intresting is that the baby will in turn influence the mother. When a male child is forming in the womb, it gives off excess testosterone which the mother absorbs. After a second or third male, the mother can have a surplus of testosterone that she can either harmlessly absorb until it dissipates, or her body can reject it. If she becomes pregnant during this period, while her body is rejecting the alien testosterone, a boy forming within her will be greatly influenced. Literally, the male baby's forming mind and body will be shaped to be more similar to that of the mother, as the mother's self defense mechanism targest the excess testosterone. This can result with a male child, perfect in every way, but with a small cerebral tick. Other studies show that a homosexual man's brain is most similar to that of a heterosexual woman's, and thus the new born child will be a boy, but with a brain that is most similar to that of a newborn girl than that of a newborn boy. This does not mean that every boy from now on will be homosexual, or that a single male child in a family will be homosexual, but there are positive correlational studies that confirm this phenomenon. Just my two cents.

This idea isn't really new. . . .but good post nonetheless. I'm also a psychology student, though my subject is psychopharmacology.

why do we even debate homosexual marriage, it's legal in spain, so why don't homosexual marriage advocates just go and get married there and let society focus on more important issues like the economy, the war, national debt and terrorism?

If three percent of the North American population is homosexual and is advocating for the right to marry, just calculate that. 3% of 300 million? You'll let that many voices go unheard?

So, they don't like our policy, so they can just leave the country if they don't agree? >_> You know better than that.

I actually thought it was from 3% to 10%, which is even more but yeah.

Anyways very good points, maybe it should have gone in the official thread but still.

no, i'm saying they shouldn't even bring the issue up right now because our country has more important things to worry about then if Bob and Fred can be married or not. Gay marriage advocates seem to put the good of themselves and their cause before the good of the country.
