I feel like a complete tool saying this, but that movie was intense!! I spent like 30 minutes just surfing the web and thinking about mortality, loneliness, god, soul and whatnot after I finished it. Your thoughts on it?

I think the beginning of that movie was intense, they should have continued with the story that he was the last one and made it more like a Cast Away movie than a zombies movie.
I loved the first 2/3 of the movie, but when they throw in the other survivors the movie starts to go rapidly downhill, the pacing is just utterly destroyed, and all the events of the movie just end up leading up to a horridly cliched feel good Hollywood ending. The alternate ending was a bit better, but still not quite the epic climax I was looking for.
It was a pretty good movie, but it would've been absolutely great if they had just stuck to the ending in the book.
I really enjoyed it, no 28 Weeks Later though. I thought the alternate ending on the Blu-ray made more sense, than the regular ending.kozanecki
I agree, and someone that actually likes 28WL? it thought it was good to, but noone else thought so.....

Me too. The comics on the special edition are great as well. It's the issues it brought up that made it good, in my opinion.
I actually wrote a short comical story about it in my blog http://sonic911.umwblogs.org/
Here it is if you don't feel like going to my blog (warning: long but entertaining read)
Never in my life have I ever experienced a more suspenseful moment than when I watched "I am Legend" for the first time in the theatres with some of my friends. Part of what added to suspense and thrill of the movie were the moments where the movie would be so quiet that I could not only hear Brendan and Sean breathing heavily (they were sitting to my left and right), I could hear Bryan and Jon too (they were farther). I wish someone had informed me about these silent moments before I ate one of those microwaved bean burritos my theatre was selling that day. I can't tell you how many times I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat throughout the course of the movie, not because of the movie, but because it was so insanely hard to keep the gas inside me from ripping through the theatres like a nuclear explosion during the long, incessant quiet scenes.
Thankfully, the movie does get loud in the instances that are supposed to surprise and scare the F*** out of you. These scenes i used to my advantage. In the one scene where the dog runs into that dark apartment, the gas was building up inside of me so rapidly, not even US sanctions imposed on my chest would be able to save the theatre. And then, as Will Smith continues his search for his dog, a mutated human jumps out of the darkness with a scream that was so loud, let's just say that no one could hear something else that was screaming almost as loudly. I subtly used my peripheral vision to glance my right and left before the inevitable realization that something was not right. No movement from Brendan or Sean. In case they were to actually survive the blast, my mind immediately began pondering possible backup plans. I glanced one more time to my right and left. Unfortunately, the stench didn't kill them.
PLAN A: Play it cool.
Sean: "WHAT THE F***?"
Me: "Ughh. Who just let the dogs out?"
Brenden: "Whoever smelt it dealt it!"
Me: "Seeeaaannn!..."
Sean: "WHAT!??"
Bryan: "DUDE."
Sean: "It wasn't me"
Jon: "Then who was it?"
PLAN B: Hope friends are stupid.
Me: "Maybe it was the movie."
Brenden: "huh?"
Me: "Well, you know those 4d rides at Disney World? Maybe the smell is zombie breath?"
Indifferent and unconvinced faces. All four move five seats down away from me. Another silent gap. And then: Helicopter crash.
Bryan: "MISSAK!!!"
Me: "It's the smell of the burning fuel!"
Everyone moves five more seats down.
Another silent gap. And then: a conversation between Will Smith and Anna.
everybody: "That's it, we're leaving."
Missak: "It was ANNA. I SWEAR!"
*Disclaimer: Events depicted in this story are somewhat fictional but the characters are not. The four individuals cited in this story have not been asked for permission, and here's hoping that they don't sue the hell out of me under Virginia penal code 1.112.
The law states, "all parties who are represented in fart stories, without prior consent, are subject to sue the hell out of Missak Artinian, and then, if so willing, may cut both his hands off so that it would be nearly impossible for him to enjoy the little pleasures in life...you know, the kind of pleasures that could be considered unethical in public settings, such as libraries, high school locker rooms, police departments, but on the other hand, could be considered ethical in motion pictures like There's Something About Mary where the product of the said pleasure can make great hair gel, but I doubt Cameron Diaz actually used Ben Stiller's finished product for real, unless she's crazy, and she might as well be, considering that she was in Very Bad Things, which was a movie so unpleasant, I might as well have gone to a cemetery and have had more fun watching tombstones while Michael Jackson's Thriller was playing in the background, which, by the way, is a timeless song, and its a shame Youtube wasn't around when Michael Jackson's career went down the drains, as I would have definitely secured a million-dollar contract with a television station for my "Leave Michael Jackson ALONE" performance that would have been viewed by over ten million people who had nothing better to do, but then again, looks who's talking, considering that I'm writing a super long run-on sentence that I'm sure the principal from Billy Madison would have something to say about.

I thought 28 Days Later was better than 28 Weeks, but I still think it was an awesome zombie movie. Bring on 28 Months Later!
It was worth a rental to see, but being one who read the book, I saw a lot of missed opportunities that could have been used. How could they not have included Ben Cortman? Ben Cortman was the most awesomely incredible side-character ever! And how come they didn't have the same ending as the book either? It had a wonderful finale of "imagining yourself in your enemies shoes" revelation. Ah well, I guess they couldn't have fit in everything...
So yea, the movie is pretty thrilling at times for the first two-thirds, and it just might help others understand the true horror genre, that of being all alone. But I do urge everyone to read the book for a far more interesting experience. Just my recommendation.

28WL was awesome.
I Am Legend was a second remake (Last Man on Earth, Omega Man, then I Am Legend) and while it was an OK movie, I wasn't impressed. Maybe it was all the buildup, but I'd rather watch Omega Man any day (Although rather different from I Am Legend the novel, still a great flick). I thought Will Smith did a great job, but the movie itself was just another poor attempt to reinvent the wheel. sagecrow
Omega Man was better than I Am Legend, to me anyway. I thought that movie did a better job at portraying the type of story that they both have than I Am Legend. I never saw Last Man on Earth though....
I hated it. The first 20 minutes were decent but it broke off the books story line and turned into a happy ending. It took the trajic and classic novella by Richard Matheson and turned it into a heroic story> They should have given it a different title so a movie actually based on the book could be made. I'm cool with movie adaptations of books but at least base it on the damn book or don't use it's name.
I gave it a 5/10 on IMDb
Oh, and the CGI sucked. I wish they would use makeup instead of CGI. The vampire/zombies/giant bald rodents looked stupid as hell.
it got rid of the ironic twist that made the book so good.
Why call it I Am Legend if your not gunna use the right ending. To those who read the book they know.
The terrible ending made me read the book.
Why would you change that ending? Especially while keeping the book's name.

Yeah, the explanation in the movie for the name is total crap. If they'd stuck to the ending in the book, then the title makes sense, but the way they did it was just... ugh...
Am I the only one who felt sadder when the dog died than when Will Smith did?AnotherKill
Yeah. The dog dying was actually the high-point of the movie for me. It was an emotional and mood-changing point in the movie. It's a shame that immediatly afterwards is when the movie starts to slip down hill...

i totally agree with both statements... too bad 28 months later isnt definite yet..
It was a just good movie. Nothing so special.Thiago26792
I agree. A good movie, but really nothing to go home talking about.
I found the suspension of disbelief to be a problem in 28 weeks later-
1. This woman is the most important lead in curing this disease. I can't see how any military officer or scientist would even consider leaving her without a 24-7 guard in the same room. They'd probably have a half dozen.
2. Even if the glorified janitor managed to get into this ultra-security room (which is stretching disbelief) I can hardly imagine him french kissing her when he knows she's been infected and she certainly looks pretty mangy and otherwise disease ridden. Plus they played up the guilt big time, I'd think that would be preventing him from kissing her rather than egging him into doing it.
3. The brilliant plan was to lock all the civilians into a single room, again without any guards or defense whatsoever. They've had plenty of time to plan, and this is the best they can come up with?
I am Legend suffered from a bit of the same, I agree with the others that it was mainly the ending that was weak.
But it was better than 28 weeks later anyway.
