Although most would disagree, it is my favorite horror film, the only horror film to actually scare me, the use of sound and fear of the unknown, the idea that the aliens are outside and clawing to get in creeped the hell out of me.

It was actually pretty good until the aliens show themselves and get beaten with a baseball bat, that ending completely ruined the movie for me for some reason, and now I hate it...

Yes when they confronted the alien, it wasn't scary anymore. I remember watching this on a big screen years ago, the birthday party footage was the spookiest.

Yeah I like that movie, its a great horror, they get the atmosphere just right and like SaintLeonidas said the sound is used so effectively. it scared the crap out of me at the cinema, its one of the very few movies I went to see on my own.

Major thing that bothered me about that movie: an alien race masters space travel (technology incomprehensibly more complex then our own) and yet they can't figure out how to open a door!?!

What part are you refering to?

Mel Gibson and co. are all in the basement when he puts an axe up against the door knob. The aliens fiddle with the knob for a few seconds then give up and try going through the chimney. Also, where's all their technology? How did they get to Earth? Why don't they have supera-dvanced weapons? Why didn't they do a basic analysis of the planet before attacking? I mean if water can kill them shouldn't they have known if they're that advanced? Ok, sorry guys, I'll stop raining on the parade.

You can't really say they were superior life-forms to begin with. The humans only knew so much about the aliens. The rest was up to fantasy and what we thought of them.

They gave up because they couldnt get in because the door was jammed shut, they turned the knob, Gibson has to hold it as it turns, so they did in fact know how to open doors. They explain why they dont use a lot of technology because they fear humans will then in turn break out or best weapons so they decide to do more of a stealth type of attack...this is all explained in the film. Plus...it is a film, a science fiction film actually, you shouldnt have expected it to explain everything and be totally accurate.

+1 point to SaintLeonidas. I still think that if they were able to travel to Earth they would have technology to completely defeat ours. However it isn't really important, I think (as someone may have posted before this) it is just about using your imagination.

My sister and I absolutely LOVE Signs. We have watched that movie countless times. It does a great job at creating an atmosphere and using the fear of the unknown. It also is great at making this "event" personal and intimate as the movie only follows 4 people, a family. Heck, the whole movie takes place in one location. I can go on and on, but ill stop ;)

I thought it was ok, but found the religious backdrop to be way too much. The whole "God means for everything to happen for some reason or another" was kinda annoying to me. That was when I was more religious than I am now as well.

The Happening was atrociously god-awfully terrible. Horrible acting, horrible characters, horrible effects, horrible plot.

I still liked it. And since when are special effects one of the most important parts of a movie? Some of the best movies have no special effects at all.

awesome film. Modern directors take note. A film does not need excessive violence and over the top special effects to be scary.

It was a very good movie and was honestly one of the scariest ones i have seen. The part where he was walking in the corn was just so suspensful and then he sees the leg go behind one of the corn stalk right in front of him..that was just horribly scary. And the scene at the birthday party just made it seem so REAL that was very scary.

I would say the birthday party video was probably the scariest part of the movie, for the reason you said, that it just made it seem so real. It's giving me chills just thinking about it right now.

I could say the same thing about most of the films Clint Eastwood directed. Anyways, I thought it was a pretty well made film. I need to watch it again.
