Oh, the English language is a full or retardedness....Its because the language is derived from latin. And, like most langages, not all of the words are spelled phonetically.
Take the numbers "One" and "Two".
"Two" has a "W" it doesn't need...
While "One" is missing a "W" that should be there...
Why don't "Some" and "Home" rhyme?
There are just so many...

English language has over 600,000 words (Oxford English Dictionary).
The Second Edition of the Oxford English Dictionary contains full entries for 171,476 words in current use
