Seriously... I just watched some vids... i forgot how incredibly clueless she was...

It's scary how many people voted for that ticket, and it's scary that she came anyway near vice-president...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vm3xeGUfsU&feature=related

Even Mccain supporters i ask, does it not scare the hell out of you that she could possibley have been one of the most powerful people in the world?

From what I've seen of America she was a reflection of quite a lot of people.

This is true, but what foreigners see of America might not be accurate. No idea what would have to be wrong with you to vote for her though.

For a start, how about those who voted for her/McCain? Gun enthusiats, perhaps some people with "white" agendas, if you know what I mean. I'm not insulting anyone. I'm simply saying she wasn't some far-out, totally unique crackpot. There's a whole lot of Americans out there who were just like her, and supported her and McCain.

QFT. She has valuable insight of Russian politics, due to her geographical location. Hopefully Obama will hire her as a geo-political advisor.

I'd actually be very worried right now if McCain won. Not just because of who she is, and what she stands for, but because it would show that her kind of viewpoints - many of which I'd label as close to backward - are shared by a sizeable amount of Americans.

Yeah, I saw it entirely as a combo of populist appeal and as bait for Clinton supporters who were burned over Obama's primary victories

I think McCain and some Republicans believed their own PR. They saw Clinton as just some empty shell who brings in the female votes because she's a woman. So they tossed up a female candidate and ... got squat for it. How they thought Hillary supporters would run to McCain because of Pailin boggles the mind.

Exactly.

But you also have to wonder if he chose her to get votes from the religious Republicans that were not too thrilled with McCain's nomination.

Good point it probably seemed like the perfect storm. I'm willing to bet McCain didn't pick her first but they wouldn't approve his pick, and her supposed base appeal appealed to the dudes running the party, and the silly idea that somehow she'd pick up Clinton voters (despite being on the other end of the issues....) made for what seemed like a good choice. Other than that they liked her I'm not at all convinced she brought out many votes from the base either. Lots of bad assumptions.

What's there not to understand? She was a young rising political star who appealed to the party's base voters.

I don't know why people don't realize that the OT population isn't politically aligned with the rest of the United States population. That's how she nearly got in.

No, no way. Just like Giuliani didn't win the nomination, even though he was the best Republican candidate and the most electable.

I think people liked her because she was humble and wasn't as wealthy as McCain, Biden, and Obama. At least she seemed sincere? Plus consider the alternatives- Obama and Biden.

See I disagree there. Giuliani's campaign was crap, and lazy. He waited until Florida to really run and all he had was the equivalent of "Hey a bunch of people died while I was Mayor of New York! Go America!" Then he got nailed in a bunch of lies, they weren't widely published but he was going to get roasted on a national campaign with them. He claimed to have some sort of knowledge of terrorist threats against the US before 9/11, but his own congressional testimony had him saying he had never heard of Al Queda before. Worse yet when he was first mayor a year earlier they bombed the world trade center. He lied (tried to blame someone else) and then got caught as the person who chose to put the NYC emergency management center right next to what already had been a terrorist target despite pleas from his own staff and the NYC Police to change his mind. His style is fairly autocratic, he doesn't get along with the media, and his personal life has been a mess. He couldn't even win Florida with a lot of NYC folk down there. Dude was not a viable option.

lol, good point. I bet Sarah Palin could try being the Governer of Russia!

Anyways, form the start of the election, I wanted Obama to win. He seemed to be the bost in the right direction for America, as McCain wanted to finish the killings in Iraq by killing everybody there... I still believe Obama was a good choice

Yea, all that stuff's **** but he still would have been a better president than McCain IMO. Not that it really matters, cause I'm not a Republican. McCain had so much bad **** against him, too, which I'm sure you're quite familiar with.

Don't you think "extremist" and "plague" is going a little too far? I mean just because you don't agree with them doesn't mean you should resort to namecalling.
