I would never encourage someone to start. It's an awful habit, and trying to quit seems more impossible every day.

In all honesty, I Love it! I really don't care about if others care what it smells like, I don't care what it costs.

To me - it's so very satisfying to wake up with a cup of coffee and a cig. Or after I'm awarded MVP in a Free for All. Or even like right now late at night just kickin back behind my PC. It's that good company that just sits quietly.

Unfortunately - this comes with health risks. So far I havn't had any serious issues, but it's undeniable that I will develop some sort of life threating risk if I continue.

I have tried to quit in the past - and I felt that I was getting somewhere after a few smokless months. But guess how I awarded myself? Yep-Just one shouldn't hurt.

So, I don't know? It's a situation of either one will or will not ever truely quit. And if you have recently started, give it up. Really. And if you're like me - keep trying to think of better ways to quit. If there is something that truely has worked for you, pass the advice on!

I'm confused. On one hand you say that you love it, but on the other hand, you say that you're trying to quit and can't.

My question is this...If you love it, why are you trying to quit?

Its crazy, huh? Its obviously bad for my health. I guess if there were a safer method of smoking there would be no conflict.

I've been smoking for 20+ years and I'm just starting to quit using the "electronic cigarette". I've tried many other ways and I think I have a good chance using this as it satisfies the hand to mouth thing, nicotine, etc without the harmful chemicals. It can be confusing on what model and vender to buy them from, but this is a good place to start: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/

Try finding another addicting thing that isn't detrimental to your health to replace it. I don't know how hard it is to fight the addiction I'm not going to lie. Just find ways yourself to deal with it. Starting now don't smoke another one...Don't even think about it.

I'm gonna have to say one thing...this is dangerous.

Because one person trying to quit is one person trying to quit. But once you startt getting into the realm of a group of people building their relationship on quitting, this can EASILY result in a cult mindset.

At this point you have to ask if you're quitting because you WANT to, or if you're quitting because the group collectively says that it is best for you.

Smoking cigs must get better after smoking awhile because I tried it and had a horrible time enjoying it. It would give me headaches and made me feel light headed. The nicotine "spike" is noticable and feels good but doesn't last long (minutes). The day of and day after smoking for the first time (had like 10 cigs) my chest hurt quite a bit I guess from inhailing so much smoke. Smoking also makes me feel queezy like I want to throw up. And the taste it leaves in my mouth... like I chewed on burnt firewood and ash. Smoking just doesn't feel like something a human being is naturally meant to do- like eating.

But as for your dilemma I highly recommend reading Alan Carr's book- The easy way to stop smoking. I've heard amazing things from reviews. Also it should be noted that there are Alan Carr clinics all around the world that supposedly have a 90% success rate in helping people stop.

I think im on the mindset of - I'd like to quit because of future health reasons. Not even for my own - I have a family these days. So my only concern would be to die early and notbe there for them. Me personally I dont care what happens to my health. I dont really LOVE myself to quit.

Only you are in control for your actions.

If you don't want to smoke anymore and the current attempts you've made to stop the habit have failed, then you're not trying hard enough. o_o

Trypatches or something, or gum. I am not sure really, I know the NHS give free support, if your British. So you could probably find help somewhere.

My wife trys her best. I hear her - but i dont seem to really acknowledge it.

The worst part is that I work in the medical field. Cardiology in fact. I see the folks who come in for Angioplasty's and stents - not pretty. Again, doesnt really bother me for me - jsut the idea of putting my family thru it. Im only 32, so i dont think I'll have any immediate issues. Most significant signs happen after the age of 40. Although i have been smoking for over 17 years. Yes - thats right, 17 years. I was quite young. Actually had my first smoke when I was 8.

So in ur opinion the Elec. Cig works? Ive been interested in those. Would i need to buy online? I havnt seen them anywhere in my area..

So far so good, but I just barely quit. I still sorta crave a cig occasionally, but this is pretty close as you actually get to blow the mist out, etc. Check that forum out before you buy online...there are some scammers and crappy products out there. I'll PM you where and what I bought if you are interested.

If it bothers you that much, then ask him.

Either he'll quit or he won't. And in the event that he doesn't quit, you can then choose to stick with him or dump his ass.

But it all boils down to what we're willing to give up in order to keep what we want. Smokers ARE willing to give up a certain degree of their health in order to keep smoking (at least, until they quit). Rather than asking their partners to quit smoking, some people are willing to stay silent if it keeps the relationship from being subject to conflict.

It's all just about what you want vs what you're willing to give up.

Personally, I don't see the point in not asking him to quit. If it bothers you that much, you ought to at least communicate how much it bothers you. You then can take things from there. Either stay together, break up, he quits smoking, he doesn't, whatever. But you ought to at least make your opinion known, so that HE knows what the stakes are. If he then chooses tobacco over you, then you know that you've made your case, and you know where his priorities lie. This gives you a better position to decide what YOU ought to do in regards to the relationship.

Hey sure - Im always interested in something if it could really help! Ive done everything else outthere-the patches, gums, losenges, candy, chewing tobacco, pipes, valium, ((((antidepressants---Dont use these to help u quit smoking by the way))) sunflower seeds, vicodin, so on and so on. I would even try heroin if I though it would help! Id probably need a cigerette right after I shot up thou.:?

Can't stop smoking?! Oh no! Who caught you on fire?

You should definently Stop, Drop, and Roll.

Well, that was my lame joke, but here: There are many ways to quit and there are solutions found in your local pharmacy.

As a fellow smoker, I think the trick to quitting is mental - you gotta hate the bad effects more than you love the good ones. Try hanging with non smokers regularly, get more active, try substitution - it's doable (apparently ;) ).

Too bad - if ur a smoker and smoke crack, this will actually heighten ur needs to smoke. Just like the other fellow said, u have to keep ur hands busy, and when on crack - u quadrupel the effect :?

When my grandpa was in the Navy he used to smoke. They didn't like that so they bought him a pack of cigs and made him eat it. Said he didn't ever want to smoke after that. Never has either. And that was back like in Vietnam. The point I'm trying to make here is you could eat one...

When my grandpa was in the Navy he used to smoke. They didn't like that so they bought him a pack of cigs and made him eat it. Said he didn't ever want to smoke after that. Never has either. And that was back like in Vietnam. The point I'm trying to make here is you could eat one... DiabeticDood
So u think just one? Or lilke - the whole pack, just to be sure??

Substitute it with crack! Nothing can go wrong!DrSponge
Too bad - if ur a smoker and smoke crack, this will actually heighten ur needs to smoke. Just like the other fellow said, u have to keep ur hands busy, and when on crack - u quadrupel the effect :?

*waves hand over head and makes a WHOOSH sound*

Already smoke. More crack, more smoking. No action - more want to smoke. Savvy?
