I did not have the internet for 48 hours and almost had a mental breakdown.

No netflix, no online gaming, no checking my email or forums, lots of raging at comcast.

I must be addicted to the internet. I don't even spend that much time online but if I don't get to do my daily routine things on the net I feel a twitch in the side of my neck. HELP!!! What would happen if the internet just ceased to exist one day...what would happen to me

Not counting the time period before I first went online, the longest I've gone without internet is over a month. You might want to look at other things in life besides being online.

true but like I said I usually don't spend that much time online usually like an hour to an hour and a half (or is that long??) but it bugs me if I can't do the little things I do eveyr day like be online.

That's...really depressing. When I went on vacation a couple months back, I didn't have the internet for 5 days and it felt great.

If this is true, you need to take some internet breaks from time to time. I'm as connect as the next guy, but I can put everything down for awhile and take a walk, play with my son, etc.

I went without it for a month last year. Was actually really nice. I slept at a normal time and found better things to do. But if it's there, I'll use it, regardless.

My coworker didn't have internet for two and a half months after she moved. That seems abhorrent to me, but 48h seems ok. You might have a problem.

It's sad that people can barely live without it, that they need to do everything on it.

But I guess that's because I remember the years where Internet didn't exist. Where people would go out and meet, play games at a bar or something, call each other, read a book, watch a movie, listen to music with headphones plugged into the stereo.

I would love to turn off the Internet for a whole week on the planet just to see people freak out.

And going without it doesn't make it more difficult.  Yes, the net facilitates lots of things, but humans lived a lot more less stressed without it.

True..I don't remember much about the years without the internet and wonder what it was like. :? I think I was 12 or so when my family first got the internet (AOL)

Read a book (or ten!), drink beer, do friend things, go for a run, etc.

Not that hard to do.

I needed to check my email (was waiting on my mom to send some scanned insurance documents to me)

That was the only acceptable answer. Well done.

That sucks man. I can go for long periods of time without internet. I use it it a lot when I want to, but I definitely can go long periods of time without it, I really only need it when a new album comes out and I want to listen to it.

Well I don't really know if I would call that an addiction. I used to have to use Netflix for the same reason. Now I have collected enough TV on DVDs to not use that either.
