That's because they're what we like to call "hypocrites".jubino
I'm not a hypocrite, I vote consistant. :P
Black people tend to be very liberal on economic issues, but conservative on other issues. Ironically, it's pretty much an established fact that the increased black turnout was what enabled Prop 8 to pass.GabuEx
That last part I didn't know.

black people are a minority. it needed the support of whites to pass more

Yup, exit polls showed that white people voted against the proposition narrowly and Hispanics were about evenly split. Meanwhile, black people voted for it quite strongly.
What you have to recognize is that it's not at all a given that a person has to be either all liberal or all conservative. Issues like gay marriage and abortion really have nothing whatsoever to do with issues like unemployment and inflation. When black people vote for Democrats, they're doing so out of economic interest, not necessarily for the entire package.
I think it might be due to the large number of Catholic Latino immigrants. Many of them can't vote though, so it might be the increased black vote.
Oh, and then there's the deceptive campaign by the Yes on 8 people.

How nice. Vote in a black president, and then bring the hammer down on your gay neighbors.
Makes a lot of sense, don't it.
Talk about how far we've come as a nation, while simultaneously destroying thousands of marriages and making gays second-class citizens.
Bravo. :|
Is THAT what we're calling "progress" these days?
Anybody not understand this state? How can this state ban gay marriage but vote in a massive Liberal? Seriously, why does this state vote right wing on lots of ballot measures but left wing in national elections? This state confuses me sometimes.MoonMarvel
Californians voted for Obama and won by 2+ million votes... Just because someone is democractic politically doesnt mean they are liberal morally, these are two completely different things. California is the greatest state in the country, dont be jealous.

I knew comments like that were unavoidable. And I live in California.

Makes no sense, funny thing is Obama was AGAINST Prop 8. Vote to ban gay marriage then vote IN people who are for it. Silly.
I hear Cali is pretty bad, hmm anybody here who lives in Cali and thinks the same or differently?the_greenzero
Cali is a mess, not even close to a great state anymore. Just look at our budget mess.

I beg to differ. And why is Cali better than New York?

Well, it's both. Young voters did vote no while old voters said yes, that's true. But it also absolutely is a black/white thing. That's just a fact. 51% of whites voted "no", but 70% of blacks voted "yes".

Like I said, black people vote based on the economy. You don't have to agree with every single thing a candidate says in order to vote for that candidate. If you did, no one would ever vote for anyone.

New York as in NYC?
aside from politics, just examine our culture from SF to SD.

That number makes me wonder why more blacks wouldn't atleast be open to voting republican.

How many times must I repeat myself? :P
Economics. Black people tend to be poor. Poor people tend to vote Democrat. Of course, the whole "Confederate Pride" thing doesn't help either.

What makes you say that? I am half black and most of the blacks I know vote more on a whole package deal then just one area.

"trying to get out" LOL exactly what kind of problems are you having getting out of a state? Moving out of state is not that hard.
^^^^^^^
Because I can just up and leave with no money, no car and no job. It's really that easy, just leave.

It's not just a token effort that is required; blacks fundamentally believe that the Republican Party is the party of old white guys and that it doesn't care about minorities. For the party to then put up - yep - an old white guy does not help them break that image.
Yo Gabu....stop blaming the blacks yo, it's not giving you a good look.iHeartCali
Who's "blaming" blacks? I'm just stating the truth: black voters caused Prop 8 to fail. That's just a bare truth.
