Seems to me that the author is trying to suggest Bush doesn't want alternative energy. Bush being from Texas, and there are...you know? It's not a very good cartoon.

Alberta is a Canadian province. I'm guessing that the oil mined may be used for fuel, and energy and may not be working because it's dirty or not cleaned. That's my try at it.

What really needs to be explained? If you dont follow the current issues, forget about the Alberta Tar Sands: Dirty Oil thing, and just focus on the groups of people being portrayed. The hippy pulling for alternative energy sources, and the *Texans* or Bush, chasing him away. Bush does not want alternative energy sources. He has his hands in the oil industry, and that would be very... un-good for his means.

Its not an overly deep cartoon... there are way more complex ones out there.

wait i just thought of something could the author also be for the issue of alternative enrgy source (which is the main issue) because it shows a cowboy which could be resembling Bush. the artist is poking fun at bush so would he be for alternative energy source?

There are oil deposits in Alberta but they are hard to get to. Alternative Fuel Activists want us to stop drilling for oil and whoever the hell is riding the horse is trying to stop them.

The cowboys don't directly represent Bush. They just represent the entire oil industry, since most of them are "Southern Cowboys."

The reference to Bush is probably implied.

Perhaps, but I think most people just want to turn it into that. Presidents are usually directly represented as themselves in political cartoons. I take them as the oil industry as a whole.
