I want to be a game designer, actually right now it might end up being a writer for video games because my mom suggested that I would be better of writing because I have always been more talented in writing than math or art. The thing is that it was brought to my attention that I have never written anything that wasn't for school except now which I have start writing a story. I was told that I can't be serious if I don't write or read every day but I had never considered writing for the video games industry and even then I hadn't done much level design outside of a summer camp I have gone to that teaches game design. I'm afraid that I may just end up having some boring job that I never wanted because I was too afraid of expressing myself in the presence of my family. The last thing I want is to work as a generic office worker or actually doing what I have gone to school for, which is engineering, but I went to the high school I am at now to get away from the kids at the high school I would normally end up going to. My future is going to be a nightmare.
Dude, with an attitude like that, you're right, you don't have a chance. This is what you do: 1) Find out what you need to do to be able to become a writer for video games. 2) Do it.
Like anything else, writing takes practice. Practice makes perfect. I've been writing for about 30 minutes to an hour every day and I notice a huge difference in the things I've written a few years ago compared with the things I write now.
