[QUOTE="maximusmmii"][QUOTE="Vfanek"][QUOTE="blooddemon666"][QUOTE="maximusmmii"]this is a pretty stupid thread, in my opinion. how can something have meaning, if the artist didn't intend for it to have a meaning?

AWESOME, SOMEONE CAN'T HAVE AN OPINION THAT DISAGREES WITH YOURS!
Using caps is considered shouting, please avoid it.
And the guy's got a point, if the artist want something to be ..sludge, then it will be sludge-
i'm not sure that that was the point i was trying to make. the surrealists, in the 1920's, intentionally tried to make art that didn't make sense. they attempted to create art using only the subconscious mind. one of their methods was to represent their dreams into their work. the result was some of the most "meaningful" art ever created. a person cannot create art that is trully random, because even when you are not consciously making decisions, you are making them subsconsciously--in which case your mind is free to express what you are trully feeling, without the censorship of rational thought. this idea can be applied to nearly every genre of art.
ah, well you can't deny that by reading your former reply it's hard to.. get all that. But I see what you're saiyng, and I agree. There is however.. lesser forms. Such as the first picture the OT posted. I don't believe there's much thuoght that has gone into that one, more like "I will try to make something random" and that's what the artist did.
the person that quoted me, left out the part of my post with the link do a wikipedia article about the surrealist manifesto. Â
