I like it because in Georgia (I'm sure it works this way in other states also) the money people use to play goes towards the Hope Scholarship, I think.
..so if you win, you'll give the money back?... well i don't think its a big deal..people can go a little overboard with it, but then again anything can be taken overboard, just have fun with it..if its not your thing don't buy any tickets
It only becomes ruins people's lives when they do not manage their money properly. Most people forget they have to pay taxes on their winnings.
Fortunately for us Canadians, we take all of our winnings and the government touches nothing. :D
Technically, a person's life isn't ruined when they win the lottery. The problem with winning the lottery is that the number is exaggerated. First of all, you don't win as much money as it says. You only win a fraction of it. The rest goes into taxes. If you take the "payout every year" option then your total gain is higher but you have to wait several years to get all of the money. Few people select this. If you take the "all the money now" option then you get only about 50% and the rest goes to the government. The reason people ruin their lives is because they think that just because they have a bunch of money means they can buy a brand new house, live lavishly, buy a bunch of cars. Yeah, that's fine until you realize that houses have property tax and cars have insurance and all that crap. When that well of money runs out you have nothing to back up your investments and your life crumbles. Money mismangement is definitely the best way to describe it. Winning the lottery isn't about striking it rich. It's about having money to live on without having to do anything for a while or not having to really worry about money. If you do it right, you could be set for life. How are people's lives ruined when they win the lottery? Care to elaborate?

If you win the lottery you will have about 5 billion "relatives" asking you for money and acting like they know you.
I don't think thats a reason to dislike it, my dad plays it, he has a 7 digit ceo salary. Sure lots of people who shouldn't be playing do, but its no ones fault but their own, they need to get some sense. I for one like gambling, I do it in casinos, but ive never lost money :\
I've never lost money at casino's :| okay, I've been down, but I bounce back. plus its fun, its like spending money at a movie, if you lose it all you had an hour of fun and what was lost, the same amount you would have spent on amovie or a meal at taco bell.I dont like it because you are paying to lose money, just like casinos. Extremely pointless.

I really dont see the fun in it, Whenever my friends do it, I basically just stand around. But i guess its understandable if you like it. Though the likelihood is you are going to lose money, otherwise the casinos would have been out of bussiness along time ago.

Well the majority of people that go into casinos are literally addicts, others are retiree's and im just a guy who likes to play games. I play certain ones because I win, its completely luck, and sometimes I get really close to going broke (on the $5 or $10 that I bring) but then a bonus comes up and I win money. I go with my GF and some of my buddies, I can't drink or anything but its lots of fun and the atmosphere is fun too. Perhaps its different living in OK though, casinos are all over the place and usually really neat.I don't dislike the lottery. I only dislike the hypocrisy of state-sponsored lotteries in states where gambling is illegal.
