i mean, say if someone puts a video of a band playing at a concert, isn't that kind of like free advertising? then, when the record company finds it, they immediately take it off of youtube due to copyright infringement. it's not like the person who posted the video is getting any money from it, why do they take them off? pride?

for example, i watched a video of "the doors" video "people are strange", and then i wanted to show it to my friend, but then i went back a few days later, and it was removed due to copyright mumbo jumbo...and it had 800,000+ views! i know i first got into the doors on youtube, and immediately bought one of the albums...

the point is, i don't know why companies and corporations would delete videos like that when it is only sharing it to the world and may even end up making a buck for them in the long run...

does anyone else agree with me?

What you are saying makes sense, but it makes copyrighted material available for free, so the companies will rarely allow it.

Yes, it's stupid. The music industry is in a desperate downward spiral, and the RIAA is making life miserable for artists and consumers.

I think they delete it because you didn't pay money to go to that concert, therefore they don't think you should be able to legally see it.

All those videos ever made me want to do is go see the band myself, so they did end up making money off of it. Again, it's stupid.

probly for 2 reasons since you can download off youtube which isnt allowed ne way but ppl do it and they can get it for free, as well as the fair usage guidlines which allow you to use copyrighted material without permission from the owner but your limited on how much or how you can use it, for music or tv shows etc its 30 seconds, so if your video only has 30 seconds of one episode of south park and you use it to make a point about something they did in the episode they cant remove it b/c it doesnt violate fair usage. how ever if you broke an entire episode into 30 second segments and posted them all they probly can do something about tht

Fox is especially stingy regarding their works. I've had 30 second clips of the Simpsons taken down for copyright infringement.

Unless they have permission, they don't have the right to post it.

I hate it when copyright infrigment went to where I once saw it. You see, there was a user, LittleKuriboh, who made Yu-Gi-Oh: Abridged, which was basically a joke re-dubbing of the whole series, and it had some of the funniest moments ever in a YouTube video, and when LK got to the Yu-Gi-Oh movie...go watch it yourself, it's so funny, though some jokes will fly over your head if you don't see some of the Abridged episodes.

And then there were two users who teamed together to make an abridged series of Naruto. Man, that was funny too. Episode 15, in particular, had the funniest DDR joke I may ever see, and it had many funny moments.

Now, what went wrong here?

All three users got perma-banned for copyright infrigment, under the category "illegal dubbing."

Yeah, right. The only users who do those joke dubbings and get banned for it are the popular ones. Thanks to those two series, many joke dubbings popped up over YouTube, and other than the three users mentioned, no one else got banned for copyright infrigment.

Yet I caught a 9-minute video of the episode when that show made fun of WoW, and it's been there for months.

Failure to aggressively defend copyrights and intellectual property is regarded as failure to maintain ownership and has successfully been used to move material into the public domain. Faced with "free advertising" versus "losing the right to make money off of copyrighted material", what do you think most companies (or indivduals for that matter) would choose?

Because they want the cash for the viewship to their programs or the cash for their DVD sales. They don't care about giving you free content, nor should they.
