Ha call me an idiot but after 3 times that I watch this movie I finally undersatnd that the engine fell through a worm hole, which was in the future, thats why they couldn't find the plane. And the whole movie after that...all the flooding , fire, the rabbit its all there to leading to his death, and to save his girlfriend. HA

overrated - I thought it was teen garbage film - one or two parts that made me chuckle - but overall I would not watch it again or recommend it

Were you expecting American Pie or something? You mentioning "one or two parts" that made you chuckle make me wonder if you were radically misled as to what to expect from the movie.

radically was the type of misled I would say - that movie got so much praise and I found myself almost falling asleep throughout most of it - I didn't find any of the characters interesting or the story or interactions either

Did you think it was a comedy, though? From your description of what disappointed you, it seems like that's what you expected.

Really interesting movie, but ultimately it dissappointed me. As I watched it, I was hoping by the end it would all make sense, but it just kept getting more convoluted.luccaface

If you understand the philosophy of time travel, the ending does make sense in reference to what the book has to say about the hero's end.

"Ancient myth tells us the Mayan Warrior killed by an Arrowhead that had fallen from a cliff, where there was no Army, no enemy to be found.

We are told of the Medieval Knight mysteriously impaled by the sword he had not yet built.

We are told that these things occur for a reason."

no, from what I gathered I was expecting a sci-fi thriller or psychedelic - when I said there were a few parts I laughed at - I was just saying at least there was something redeeming - not enough, one funny part and no real inspiring portions for the rest of the hour and a half or however long that movie was

This movie was lent to my husbands mom and dad and it sat on the kitchen table for weeks and one day, when we were out of movies to watch, decided to borrow it. I was really sceptical, had never heard of it, had a weird cast including Patrick Swayze did not appeal, etc. BUT, I was impressed. I really enjoyed the entire flick, the opening credits, character introductions, the soundtrack was killer, and plot was obscure, not something I expected. Overall I found it to become, quickly, one of my favoritre movies, evento fall asleep to. Mainly it's the cinematography andsoundtrack that sucked me in at first. It was a fun movie that I didn't dread not understanding first-view, but actually anticipated the second, third and fourth. I'm not so much into itasI was in beginning. But it's still a kickass movie I'll think about watching... The Directors Cut is not as awesome, because they changed the soundtrack.

What's "the book"? I thought we were talking about Donnie Darko, the movie.

Roberta Sparrow's (or Grandma Death) book about time travel in the film explains... well, the whole movie. It talks about the tangent universe, how it must be corrected, and eventually, how it ends once the tangent universe is closed.

Probably my favourite movie.

Not the most complex, or the most revolutionary movie of all time, but I never tire of watching it. It's just a shame that the director hasn't done anything else worth mentioning, though.

I liked it a lot, it's one of those movies that I expected to be really bad and then it surprises me in a good way... I think I had that experience with The Butterfly Effect too.

That's annoying to me. So I didn't even have a chance at fully understanding the story, and the author of the book that I'm supposed to read is also a character in the movie? That's a pretty sheisty gimmick IMO.

its not a separate book, its the book that the character wrote. its the book that donnie was reading in the movie.

Actually the passages in the book he's talking about are shown in the Directors Cut of the movie. I'd highly recommend it it's much easier to follow

The book is a storytelling device in the novel. I've never seen the theatrical release, so I can't say what (from the book) is in that release and the director's cut. Nobody requires you to read a book, the film just demands your full attention.

It's a great movie. I didn't understand it at first but then I read somewhere that it concerned the supernatural e.g. time travel. The ending is the saddest ending I've ever seen in a movie. Especially with the 'Mad World' playing in the background. Gives me goosebumps.

I like Donnie Darko, I saw it in the cinemas when it had a limited release over here... although the plane's engine going through the worm hole I got first time.
