Discovery is airing a tribute to Steve Jobs on Sunday. Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman will be hosting.
Will you be watching? Does Steve Jobs deserve this triubute?
What say you, OT?

What was that thing they did on 30 Rock called, when they had the disaster footage ready and Mel Gibson's house got destroyed by a natural disaster?
Help the people the thing that happened happened to.

Haven't we had enough tributes to him? He was a computer salesman for gods sake. It's not like he was a medical researcher or anything.

Oh but he was a medical researcher. The man was a surgeon in knowing how to take people's money.[QUOTE="Johnny_Rock"][QUOTE="mrmusicman247"]

Hell no! Going to watch football. Don't care for him at all so meh.ExoticAnimalReally? The SNF game sucks this week.
[QUOTE="ExoticAnimal"]Hell no! Going to watch football. Don't care for him at all so meh.sergemyster8Really? The SNF game sucks this week. Eh, football is better than watching some tribute video of some guy I don't care about. Plus I want to see how the Bears respond after last weeks game and whether or not they are contenders in the NFC north.
Stupid name, but he does deserve a special as his ideas and practices revolutionised electronics
i would even say more than Gates

I love when people say someone revolutionized something and yet can't explain exactly how. But, it's Steve Jobs man, I mean, come on. Because he was the only person who ever had the idea of making colorful computers, or making smaller computers. But I guess he was the first person to create and MP3 player...wait. All he did was create a successful brand. He took existing ideas, slapped apple logos on them, got a bunch of hipsters hooked on his brand, and charged double the price for them. Same with Bill Gates, all he did was take a technology that other people invented, a technology that they thought could be supported by FREE software, and monopolize the market for that software. Innovators man, because they're the first people to think of the idea of charging people more for products than they're worth. I mean, no one had ever realized that there's a sucker born every minute before these two...oh wait...

Jobs pushed the idea of user assebility in PCs
with friendly graphic interfaces
By your logic edison didn't revolutionize lighting as others proved the concept before his incandescent lamp, and others released similar tech
The ipod revolutionised mp3 players by offering a versatile user friendly mp3 device supported by itunes the revolutionary online music retail service
The fact that the ipod is the majority selling mp3 player in the US, and itunes is the largest music distributing service makes it more than hipster tech

No he didn't, you only think he did because the only story you ever get is the one that supports his and Gates' corporate agenda. The PC was designed with the intention of creating software that would make it accessible to basically everyone and distributing that software for free, Gates and Jobs only took that idea and slapped a price tag on it.
Edison didn't revolutionize lighting, he only slapped a price tag on it.
MP3 players were user-friendly before the iPad, all he did was connect it with his branded store. Again, branding, all he was ever good at.
Sales mean nothing to me. There's a sucker born every minute, and there have been a lot of minutes that have taken place since the iPod came out. He branded MP3s, nothing more. He got a bunch of hipsters hooked and started a trend, that's called branding.

Pretty much sums up my opinion of the man. His greatest achievement was convincing technophobes to pay 3-5x more for a device than what it was actually worth. He was a good businessman, but he was hardly the visionary people make him out to be.
And don't give me the "but he made the first PC!" line. That was Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs was just along for the ride and his greatest contribution to the whole thing was "hey Woz, how about you make some computers and I sell them?"

Yes the public majority is the hipsters
not those refrencing failed political leaders and politics, and denouncing the corporate world
and pretending the ipod not the best mp3 player on the market:roll:
I'm hardly the biggest fan of Jobs, nor do I own any Apple products, but I have to admit I do respect him for building Apple up to where it is today. (Though you can't forget Woz)
I might watch it if I'm bored.

Are you even reading what I'm saying? I said he made his brand by getting hipsters hooked and turned it into a trend i.e. it's not just hipsters right now. It's hipsters and sheep.
If you think the ipod is the best mp3 player on the market then why don't you try substantiating that position.
I won't be watching it, but I can see the reason why they would have a tribute show.
Even though I'm not an Apple fan, I do have to admit the guy was a marketing genius.
I might watch it if there's nothing else on. Steve Jobs was a good guy but I think it's wrong that he gets all of the credit for 'changing the way we communicate'. Most of the ideas and designs probably came from less famous engineers and designers.
I think what bothers me the most is how fast they were able to prepare it. mrmusicman247But his health was getting much worse the weeks before he passed away. It may sound immoral, but maybe they started the preparations before he died. Also, your sig is awesome.
