Whenever I would run or walk for a long amount of time, my legs get really sore from the knee down, and it hurts to sit on the ground, stand, and walk. Is there a reason why they do that, and how I can stop the pain and soreness?

It's because of the build up of pyruvate to release energy. Haven't studied biology in a while so my explanation may seem a bit sketchy. Basically Pyruvate provides energy but there are some side-products too which when build-up cause the pain. You cannot stop the pain. I guess the only way to lessen it is to keep your legs in good shape so the muscles become accommodated to it.

Where is the pain? In the muscles, bones, or both? If the muscles, I'd go with Harvardshan. If it's your bones, I'd go with sonicare and LJS in saying shin splints.

Sounds like you have shin splints, icing it could keep it down for a short while.

Ice did nothing at all for me. The only way I could get rid of it was cutting exercise down to almost zero for about a month, and then starting up very, very gradually. I also ditched my crappy old running shoes after finding out they were completely unsuited to my running style, so maybe that helped a lot too.
