I had a crush on a german exchange girl 2 years ago

She was in my class for six months , Damn it she was Hot I was totally obssed with her and I was going to tell her how I felt but there was also another question I wanted to ask first , I asked her if her Grandfather was a member of the S.S during WW2 , after I asked her that she slapped me and called me an idiot and then left crying, She never spoke to me again , I wish I had asked her if she wanted to be my girlfriend instead of that...

What do you guys think I should have done?
