Many moons ago I made a vow. I vowed I would never create a personal blog. I vowed I would never post self indulgent tripe on a space dedicated to my own voice. I vowed I would never regurgiate reciprocated information and pass it off as my own. In my head I cling to the idea that the world would be a better place if we all STFU once in a while. Too many opinions paraded around as information. Too much information and data overflow, bogging down society, the individual, for knowledge is power, but a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

Who here shares my sentiments, and no I am not an anti-blogger who is secretly a blogger, or a twitter or a mad hatter. I value silence.

And before anyone tells me to blog it, jump off a cliff and if you still live, then feel free to post that reply. And yes there is irony in this post. Feel free to find it.

Obviously you must not have anything to say about your life. Grats Blogging is healthy, just to get things out that you want to say.

As a person who is usually pretty vocal, one of my teachers once asked me the question why I'm so quiet when she asked the class questions or a discussion is going on. And as a response I said " the quieter I am the more I'm learning". So while I'm not inherently against blogs I do believe that some people need to shut up once in a while and take the time to observe and listen to the world around them.

I've been asked many times in life why am I so quiet, to which I politely answer, "Because I have nothing to say", from which I am almost always met with proverbial silence.

Maybe if you actually bothered to read my post, like the other half dozen **** wits, then you'd know that: 1. You're right this is a sort of blog piece of which I am acutely aware of the inherent irony. And, 2. I made a distinction between open forums and personal spaces, to quote, "space dedicated to my own voice". Off topic is not a space dedicated to my own voice, it is a public forum meant for adequate discussion. Therefore the irony is only half hearted.

The only place I have ever blogged is gamespot. and i only blog when i feel like something is worth talking about, plus I occasionally delete them since they are not revalent anymore. Now Ive dedicated my blog to my opinions and happenings in gaming and entertainment.

I get what TC is saying to a degree,I would never tell all to the world. But at the same time there is a simple solution to not liking blogs. Do not read them, problem solved.

Did you even read my post? Did you. Because I quite clearly state the irony in my original post. But again I will reciprocate what I wrote to another poster: 1.

I agree with the OP. People always wait for their turn to talk, always willing to give up their personal opinion on a subject, instead of initiating in a coversation. Bloging is just a digital extension of this. They can talk on any matter they like without having to stop talking to listen to other opinions. Basically exactly what im doing here, wow im such a hypocritical as**ole Im not moving the conversation along, not responding to anyone in particular, just voiceing my own opinion on the matter.

You raise an interesting point, you should probably write a blog about it. :S Also most "data" and "information" you mentioned actually is actually a form of opinion. At least in my field (history) alot of time there is a dominant belief but often numerous other experts disagree and have a different opinion. IE. Those who believe atomic weapons in WW2 saved lives and those who argue the weapons had little impact. As in the scientific community there are those who argue their data proves global warming and thats their opinion and other scientists argue their data disproves that and their opinion is global warming isnt doesnt exist etc. Although I do respect and understand your sentiment that people treat blogs like a hairdresser conversation. "And how are you today?" "Oh good, great, went to a nice restaurant the other day." "Oh good, how are the kids?" etc

And was my post directed at forums, or at personal blog spaces? Was it directed at meaningful discussion or even conversation forums, or was it directed as I stated at "self indulgent spaces"? Maybe if you guys actually read I wouldn't have to post the same damn thing about half a dozen times in this thread so far.

Well your post is was trivial and asinine. zakkro

Trivial it may well be, in your opinion, asinine it most certainly was not. For it was not silly or stupid or superfluous, it was and still is a decent conversation piece of which a number of others posters have added a few intelligent remarks to. You were not one of them.
