For those who don't know, I graduated last month from high school, so i'm done with it until I start college later on this year. Now don't get me wrong, I am glad I now have a diploma, but I worry about what's going to become of me. Throughout high school I never realy had any close firendships with anyone. Sure, I had people to talk to, but I never hung out with any of those people outside of school, meaning I had way too many boring weekends and boring summer breaks. What i'm worried about is that this will continue as I grow older, and I don't want to look back at my past and regret it like I do now.

So my question is, does anyone here have this same problem, or know anyone who does?

I'm the same way.  I'm not sure if I regret it though.  Maybe I will.

Not really. I've been out of highschool for 10 years. I didn't hang out with a lot of people back then, but I did have a close group. After all this time I still hang out with the same small group of friends I went to school with. The only differece is we all have jobs and houses now. Try joining a club or martial art.

when you start college and begin your more "adult" life i think its easier to make friends and meet people, its not a big popularity thing like in high school, although people like do exist in college, they are certainly not the majority.

Now I know it's not the thing to say here on these boards but when you are in college go to some wild party. Get drunk and be foolish. You will have a good time and make some friends.  I used to be kind of like you and sometimes the best way to find friends and be more involved is to let yourself go and not worry if that idiot in the corner says "gee your so immature".

Yeah im familiar with that problem, im making great efforts to make it better though, the past few months ive strengthened my friendships, made some new friends and find myself doing social things outside of school more, which would never have happened if I didnt make an effort. Now all I want is a girlfriend right now :)

Exactly; in high school, you have people with little in common shoved together. Once that is no longer the case, it's much easier to meet people and build friendships based on common interests and temperments.

I had a very close knit group of friends in high-school.  I still hang out with many of them to this day, 10 years later.

Some relationships last and others don't.  College is going to be a great place to meet people, so just try to socialize more.  Join some clubs, or extracurricular activities.

Think of college as a fresh start.  You can be more social if you want to be...but just make sure you're happy.  :)

Not really, well, kind of. I hang out with some good friends a lot on the weekends. But I never stop wishing I could have hung around with more people.

You're missing out man, it's fun, try to get some great friends in college. I have so many great memories for high school, including...

When I was sophmore year, me and a bunch of friends went to toys r us to buy some swords. We bought these foam things for 7.50 (a huge ripoff) and pranced downt the street to the nearest Barnes and Nobles. So we go in, and start dueling in between the books. An employee comes over and tells us to leave, so we tur on him and all 7 of his wacked him mercilessly. The manager came sprinting out while calling the police, so we got out of there as fast as we could.

These type of moments can only come with friends, and their pricelessness will last forever.

Yeah, I am in the same exact pickle as your self, I'm going to college later this year and I too am detirmined to make tons of new friends.  I'm gonna do this by living on campus, that way, i'm kinda forced to make friends wit a roomate, and i'm gonna join a buncho clubs.  Ne way, good luck with your social life.  I'm sure you'll be fine.

That's a shame :( I've been listening to news reports about how coddled and spoiled kids of the last decade or two have been, and now I see what they mean.

Honestly man... every generation says the younger one is worse. So really you don't see what they mean because it's a repeat.

Don't worry about it, in the working world people don't judge as much as in high school, you will meet tons of people.

trust me.

My life is even worse than yours I have real friends & a beautiful girlfriend named Bianca who I can't see for another 45 days & 21 hours. Caring about someone as much as I care about her & not being able to see her is worse than living a life without any friends at all.

Not that I parade this but when doing that stuff you don't do it your home. It is the key to safety. And yes it could have technically killed you but then most teenagers would have to be dead by now

Who knows.  I'm a soon-to-be-senior in high school, and literally the only person i hang with outside of school / during summer breaks is my girlfriend, even though I have quite a bit of friends.  I don't know if that's good or bad, but I'll find out when I go to college I guess.

It could be much worse: you could be stuck with a bunch of loser friends that mooch off your success. On the other hand, it's an important part of life to develop relationships, whatever they may be.
