It's inexcusable. I never had such ridiculous problems with other forum software before. This should be unacceptable from a bussness view point. We should not tolarate this crap.

This forum does work very poorly when it's working at all. Luckily the community is great to make up for it.

I usually don't like to complain, but I think alex is perfectly justified in this particular case. These forums are mess software-wise. I shouldn't have to paste my YouTube link into notepad and then paste it back into my post. That's ridiculous.

The worst thing about this is that I've seen small forums owned and run by either one or a few people that function way better than this one.

GS is a pretty big website. They should be able to get their **** in order.

Agreed, can't see why we don't go with a modified vBulletin.

It does the job, but I do hate getting errors especially with links, images and quoting. I also don't like when I put sentences/paragraphs in different lines, but then it merges it into one big wall of text after submitting.

The site is owned by CNET. There is no excuse for a site this large to run this poorly.

Exactly.

And people have been complaining about this for a long time.

You probably have the WYSIWYG Editor turned. I always had problems with that so I turned it off and it's so much easier to make posts.

Yeah, I do, but when I turn it off, my paragraphs get smooshed together.

They aren't smoshed together for me. It all depends on who you are quoting. If you're quoting someone who has the editor on, then it will appear that way but if you're quoting someone who has it off, then it won't. Kinda wished GS did away with the editor as it causes nothing but problems and the code tags are pretty easy to learn.

It certainly has gotten worse over the years. I feel like when I started going here (5 or 6 years, I forget) the forums were much easier to use and rarely had problems. Seems like it has gone to hell in the last 2 years.

Why do you do that? It's easier to use BBCode, and you have a working link again.;)

While I agree that this forum software is just about as jacked up, I don't think it will change any time soon. Probably because even with all the errors, the forums are still pretty active. They probably think that even though this has been going on for years, we are still getting a decent amount of revenue to even care I guess.

One I recall he mentioned was the time of forum posts. A small annoyance, but it's been around for so long, you think they would have patched it by now.

Yeah, it kinda annoys me. It says that it is almost 5 am on your timestamp and it makes me want to double take. Just no way it is that early. :P

Yeah, I know. My current time is 5:13 AM, I've gotten used to mentally subtracting 3 hours from the time stamp.:P Funny how the time stamp works in unions - why can't they copy the code for time there and patch it in for here?

Yup, it's very annoying. Press submit once and it won't work, press it again and it does...it's just so random sometimes.

The funny thing is that the forum code seems to only ever get worse over time, not better. For example, in the last month or two there's been a new bug that broke text linking. So now instead of making a string of text the link, you have to use the URL tags and leave the actual URL in the post. From what I can tell, this is all due to the fact that the forums are actually modifying HTML in your post as you type, and as a result broken tags and bad formatting get left behind when you delete something or do anything complicated (like quote multiple people or put a picture in a spoiler tag). Hence why when you copy your plain text post into notepad and then copy it back over from there your post will suddenly go through. It's because you've wiped out all the error-filled HTML code the forum's post editor made in the process of you making your post.

Yeah this seriously needs to be fixed. I would assume that this forum is in the top 100 most active forums yet it has the worst software I have ever seen. Also fix the unions.

They should just switch over to XenForo.. that thing is really damn impressive. The Firefall and Terraria forums both run that.

Username colour? They let you change it if subscribe to the site. Thankfully they let it stay that way after you quit your subscription. But none of the benefits from subscribing alters the forum experience, except for no advertisement.

I've yet to suffer from all these html errors your talk about. I know about them, know what I have to do to avoid them too.

Does the job I suppose. 98% of the time I have no problem with the site, just now and again I'll get those errors etc.
