the bible stories may be fiction-based; but that's not even the point of it. it didn't even have to be jesus it could have been a deer that doesnt change anything! the bible was made to serve as a basis for the beliefs and ideologies of the christian faith not as a history textbook! they could have put any story they want in there as long as the stories teach the same morals that is the actual faith itself!

so you can watch those retarded youtube conspiracy videos all you want it's just a waste of time. the point of religion isnt that you completely believe in a history of events, its the principals and morals that you base your life on! it wasn't important that jesus pulled a thousand fish out of thin air, what was important was that he helped people that were less fortunate and went around preeching good things!

Actually it is that you believe in a history of events?

Am I missing a point here?

Can I call myself christian without believing that CHrist sacrificed himself on the cross for our eternal souls?

no?

Don't try to change the meaning of what's stated in the bible... All you and the other christians are doing is adapting it to agree with science...

i didn't say i was agreeing with anything all im saying is that you're supposed to take the lessons away from the stories not look at the useless details and prove they could never happen therefore the religion is useless

Part of a religion is believing fully in the useless details. Christianity is nothing with CHrist just as Islam is nothing without Muhammed. If you take away the details, all you have is a set of morals, and morals do not equal a religion.

When you say it that way, reading a few anecdotes out of a Reader's Digest is equal to reading religious scripture.

Ah hah. You hear that Silver_Dragon, Christianity really is all about the effects rather than the causes. SiiLeNCE read this thread: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=25970909 and tell me what you think. If you don't believe in the Bible's historical accuracy do you also not believe in the existence of God.

religion is the ultimate form of mind control that is perfectly legal. if i dont see it, then it doesnt work, and nobody can show me god.

I was raised indoctrinated in Baptist Christianity. They taught that all of the things in the Bible actually happened. A dude lived in a fish for a couple months. Jesus magically created a thousand fish. Three guys stood and played cards while standing in a furnace. Some people believe that the Bible is a source of historical stories.

I don't know how they do, but they do.

I hate when people try to make a well-thought out argument and end up just spouting nonsensical gibberish. I also hate when people argue against something and don't do any research into what they are arguing against.

Actually, bible stories are really cool, and most are fables that you can take good lessons from. I'm no Christian, but I will defend that as far as I can. As far as historical accuracy goes, I don't give a rat's ass. Of course the sotries never transpired, but that doesn't make them any less valuable...

The point is that some sects of Christianity teach that those events did happen.

But then you have the Christians who always cite that "the bible is the most accurate historical text of its age". The OP's right, don't mix fact with religion.
